Today marks the opening of the ICOMOS Climate Literacy Training for Heritage Professionals in Central Asia in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. Over the next three days, 21 heritage professionals from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan will come together to strengthen their capacity to address the growing impacts of climate change on cultural heritage. Developed by the ICOMOS Climate Action Working Group (CAWG), this regional training combines scientific knowledge, practical methodologies, and collaborative learning tailored to the Central Asian context. The programme will include discussions on: ▫️ the foundations of climate science and its implications for cultural heritage; ▫️ climate risk assessment tools and methodologies; ▫️ climate adaptation, resilience, and communication strategies for heritage; ▫️ practical exercises and case studies rooted in regional knowledge and local perspectives; ▫️ a dedicated train-the-trainer module, empowering participants to share and multiply their knowledge within their own institutions and networks. ICOMOS is proud to have organized it in collaboration with the International Institute for Central Asian Studies, The Uzbekistan Art and Culture Development Foundation, the Cultural Heritage Agency of the Republic of Uzbekistan and UCL’s CAAL project. On May 5, #Armenia joined ALIPH. The agreement was signed by @AndreasyanZh and @frelandv, in the presence of @EmmanuelMacron and @NikolPashinyan. Armenia becomes ALIPH’s 10th member, joining France, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, China, Luxembourg, Morocco, Cyprus & Uzbekistan.

🌍🏛️ Opening Ceremony | Capacity Building Programme on Earthen Architecture & Climate Change On 5 May, we proudly launched the opening ceremony of the ICOMOS "Capacity-Building Programme for Climate-Resilient Earthen Architecture in Africa", hosted at the Royal Court of Tiébélé (Burkina Faso), a UNESCO World Heritage site. Over the coming days, 25 emerging and mid-career professionals from 16 African countries will engage in a unique learning journey combining theoretical foundations, field-based case studies and hands-on exercises in Tiébélé, integration of local knowledge systems and African earthen building traditions.
