Last month our Optical Particle Counter was used to measure the concentration of airborne particulate matter in Montserrat.
Particles less than 2.5 micrometres in diameter (known as PM2.5) can consist of a variety of chemicals and materials, which may impact people's health.
Many thanks to the team at @AMOF_Science for the loan of their optical particle counter. We're using it as the reference level measurement to tie together the deployed network of @ThePurpleAir and @quant_aq sensors across Montserrat, to monitor PM2.5 1/2

Meet the new @AtmosScience X-band radar!
We're installing and testing it over the next couple of weeks. Really looking forward to using it this summer for some research campaigns with @MetOffice_Sci 📡
This week our @AMOF_Science team is installing the new @AtmosScience X-band radar at the Chilbolton Atmospheric Observatory.
Our specialised weather radar will help researchers to study clouds and precipitation - and collect evidence on how our weather and climate are changing.

Researchers from @AtmosScience and @AtmosChemYork use the BT Tower Observatory to detect how air pollution levels change over time.
Recent work shows that nitrogen dioxide emissions, one of the most harmful air pollutants for our health, reduced by over 70% between 2017 - 2021.
Traffic reduction in London has led to substantial benefits for #AirQuality in the region.
However, evidence suggests that heating emissions may become the next big challenge for policy makers.

A team of @AtmosScience and @UK_CEH researchers have assessed precipitation data from our X-band radar in Northern Scotland.
They found the mobile radar can help to fill gaps in the stationary radar network, and boost hydrological model performance.

It's brilliant to see our 30m measurement mast deployed on arctic ice as part of @MOSAiCArctic expedition, helping to understand the global consequences of Arctic change.

Last year, we shipped kit to Arctic on board the RV Polarstern, supporting the UK contribution to @MOSAiCArctic.
Our kit will help Prof. @IanMBrooks to study the boundary layer - the part of the atmosphere closest to the earth's surface.
