With modern technology, particularly around surveillance, detection, and targeting, you really could do this. Raids on businesses. Flying squads sent to suspect councils to review every single contract for fraud.
But it’s not just how relatively easy it would be, but how transformative. Imagine the effect on the high street if you got rid of every money laundering business? The money saved from eliminating the grey economy? We don’t have to live like this. A better future is possible.
Given the will to do it, and the will to legislate, we could probably eliminate organised crime in the UK within a single parliamentary term
