Last week, a new article from @BostonGlobe features the Chamber’s statewide housing report, “Supercharging Housing Production: Policies & Practices that Promote Housing Development, Attract Businesses, and Retain Talent.”
The article highlights many of the Chamber’s policy recommendations to increase housing production and keep residents from leaving for competitor states. Chamber President & CEO Jim Rooney (@Boston_Rooney) underscores what’s at stake if the housing crisis goes unaddressed:

Massachusetts needs to build 222,000 new homes over the next decade (which is 22,000 homes each year).
At the same time, housing production has declined significantly:
🔹Approximately 30,000 units were permitted annually from 1960–1979
🔹Only 12,096 housing units were permitted in 2025
The gap between what is needed and what is produced has significant implications for affordability, workforce retention, and long-term economic growth throughout the state.
