Wildlife officers tranquilized and safely removed a mountain lion that had been spotted in a residential neighborhood near the San Francisco Zoo. The animal was seen hiding under a bush earlier this week, prompting the mayor to urge residents to avoid the area. Officers located the mountain lion Friday and carried it away after tranquilizing it.

Duncan Sheik, the singer-songwriter behind the 1990s hit “Barely Breathing” and a Tony- and Grammy-winning Broadway composer, has died at 56. “Barely Breathing” spent more than a year on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned Sheik a Grammy nomination. He later found success on Broadway with the 2006 musical “Spring Awakening.” His family said he died of cardiac arrest.
