The Government of Uganda, led by the Prime Minister H.E Robinah Nabbanja, alongside Cabinet Ministers, relevant Principal Secretaries, Directors of Lands and Mines, and other key government officials, has officially handed over the title deed for the land containing iron ore to Devki Steel (UG) Ltd, marking the beginning of a transformative chapter in Uganda’s steel manufacturing industry.
Mining and transportation operations are expected to commence in December 2026, creating approximately 1,700 jobs for Ugandans.
The project will also establish the first blast furnace in Tororo and one of the first major new steelmaking projects in Africa in the last 50 years, with a planned production capacity of 1 million metric tonnes. The world-class steel manufacturing plant is expected to be completed in 2027, representing an investment of approximately USD 576 million and creating an estimated 4,000 direct jobs.
We extend our gratitude to H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the Government of Uganda for their visionary leadership and commitment to industrial development.
