Last week I shared the thesis I’ve been working on during this bear market: build games and experiences that build communities.
Not trying to build the next AAA game. Not making unreachable promises. Just building cool things people can jump into, play, trade, compete, create and hang out in, and then using those experiences to build real communities around NFTs, tokens and whatever comes next. UGLY was the first step. Today I want to show you the bigger thing I’ve been building behind it.
It’s called GrowBlocks.
The idea goes back much further than this bear market: In 2019, a friend and I tried to build a game around building communities on-chain. The graphics were rough, the smart contracts didn't work properly and the whole experience was honestly hell. We spent over $1M trying to make it happen, relying on a team that ultimately couldn't deliver what we had imagined. When we needed them most, they weren't there.
For the first time, I feel like technology has caught up with the ideas we had back then. With AI, vibecoding, and the tools available now, you don't need a huge studio or millions of dollars just to experiment with an idea. You can imagine something, start building it yourself, test it with your community, and improve it incredibly fast.
For me, GrowBlocks is also personal.
I studied web and graphic design in my early twenties because I always loved creating things, but life took me somewhere completely different. I became a travel entrepreneur and spent years organizing tours around Europe for large groups. I loved the business and especially the people.
Then COVID arrived in 2020, and my travel business collapsed almost overnight. I was completely lost for a while, and somehow that pushed me back into the thing I had loved when I was younger: creating.
I started making banners, stickers, and random designs for crypto communities. Then I started moderating communities, meeting more people, getting deeper into crypto, and eventually building my own. That became efrogs.
It took a ridiculous amount of work, consistency, and vision, but we built something special. Efrogs became the strongest community on Linea, and I'm still incredibly proud of what we built together.
Now I want to take everything I've learned from that journey and go much bigger.
That is GrowBlocks.
GrowBlocks is already live on
@RobinhoodCrypto testnet, and a lot of what I'm describing isn't a roadmap. You can actually use it today.
You can build and publish your own plaza. You can launch a coin and trade it in front of the people standing around you. You can mint NFT collections and trade NFTs with other players. You can go into the Shooter Plaza Armory, design your own weapon skins, mint them as NFTs, and then gift or trade them.
We even connected the main plaza chat directly with the
t.me/GrowBlocksxyz Telegram group. Someone inside the game can talk to someone sitting on Telegram, and they're part of the same conversation.
This is where the thesis from my previous post starts making more sense: I don't want communities to just have a token, a Telegram, and an X account.
I want them to have a place.
Their own plaza. Their characters. Their games. Their NFTs. Their events. Their launches. Their shops. Their competitions. Their customized games (devkit is live)
And
@uglyonrobinhood is our first real proof of concept.
UGLY is the first community living inside GrowBlocks. It has its own plaza, its own stage, its own giant screen and UGLY RUN. When you walk into the UGLY plaza, everyone becomes an UGLY.
We're also working with
@Moshdottrade to integrate their launch technology directly into GrowBlocks, with the goal of launching UGLY from inside its own plaza, right there in front of its community.
We're not rushing that. It happens when it's ready and when we know we can do it properly.
Then there are Froglets and efrogs.
Froglets are basically our NFT trading playground on testnet. You can claim the same Froglet numbers for free on Robinhood Chain testnet straight into your game wallet, then list them in the plaza, buy and sell them, gift one directly to another player face-to-face, or even drop them around the world for somebody else to find.
Same art. Same traits. No value. Just a playground to test what we can build.
And everything we learn from Froglets shows us what can eventually be possible with efrogs.
Your efrog can already come with you into GrowBlocks. Link it, and it lives there with you. Our Museum already has halls full of efrogs.
The efrogs collection itself doesn't change. Same contract. Same frogs. OGs never die. What we build around them from here is something I want us to discover together.
One last thing that matters: security.
Game wallets run through Privy, and we built a separate backup site so that even if GrowBlocks itself goes down, you can still access your wallet and move your funds out. Also you can download your keys for back up. If we're going to ask people to actually use this world, ownership has to mean ownership.
And remember: this is Season 0.
Things will break. Things will change. Some ideas will work, and others will probably be terrible. We'll add things we haven't even thought about yet.
That's the whole point. I'm not interested in spending three years telling you what we're going to build.
I'd rather build it with you.
Welcome to GrowBlocks. RT, let's make this big.
