We joined Mayor @DanielLurie, District 3 Supervisor and Transportation Authority Vice Chair @DannySauter, and our colleagues at @sfpublicworks, @SFMTA_Muni, @sfoewd, @sfplanning, and @UnionSquareSF this morning to celebrate a $14.5 million grant from the @SF_DDC, which will support the Powell Street Improvement Project. The project includes sidewalk widening, new lighting inspired by historic lanterns, enhanced planting, benches, and updated cable car stops — transforming the corridor between Market and Geary. Thank you to the voters who supported the Healthy, Safe, and Vibrant San Francisco (Prop B) bond, which helps fund this project. The Transportation Authority is proud to provide $4 million in Prop L half-cent sales tax funds in additional support of the project, which aims to improve the pedestrian realm and visitor experience. Construction is set to begin fall 2026, with substantial completion by late 2027.

In the historic St. Matthew's Church in the Mission today, we announced a historic preservation effort in partnership with Board President Mandelman.

This announcement includes increased resources for the Planning Department to survey and identify historic resources, as well as legislation led by Board President Mandelman that will make it easier to protect historic landmarks throughout the city.

In San Francisco, we are both building our future and protecting the landmarks that give this city its character. We passed the Family Zoning plan to make room for more housing near transit and along our commercial corridors, and launched PermitSF to cut red tape and reduce the time and cost of building. We also recently announced the most significant affordable housing investment in San Francisco's history.

Now, we are taking steps to ensure that the places that tell the story of who we are have a permanent place in our city’s future. Thank you to Board President Mandelman, SF Heritage, and Historic Preservation Commission for your partnership in advancing this agenda.
