One of the most heart-breaking and tragic things I've ever read in my life was a big post on reddit from a recently transitioning transgender. It's actually a big reason why I fucking hate the ideology so much because it's full of lies.
Basically, the headline was "I didn't expect people to look at me with disgust." See, they explained that when you're going through the whole process, starting with being part of the transgender community, they talk a LOT about "transphobia". The narrative is basically that most of the world hates you for existing, that anything other than complete embrace of your identity is just pure bigotry and hatred. Meanwhile, this person realized that, as they went and did all the stuff on the way to transitioning, the looks weren't out of hatred, it was disgust. Not intentional, not like people MEAN to look at them with revulsion, it's just basically a reflex, like when you look at a bucket of maggots.
See, a big part of the narrative is based around rebellion, the idea that transitioning is some kind of attack on the evil bigots. But the poster realized that basically nobody in their life was hateful and bigoted, everyone just pitied their existence. And basically, they talked about how actually the pity and revulsion is much, much harder to deal with. Like the poster knew that if the people in their life could fix whatever the fuck was wrong with them, they would, they are decent and good people. But at the end of the day all they can really think is "I'm glad that isn't me."
