if you’re a marketer in tech, Ramp just made your next product launch a bit harder.
last night,
@tryramp launched its new Bill Pay product with a Broadway musical.
Ramp's marketing team has been raising the bar for tech storytelling for years but last night felt like the peak to me.
here's why it worked:
- first of all, it has a 'WTF moment'. a tech company made a Broadway musical to launch software for paying invoices - great hook.
- the show made boring software features feel human. “time is money, save both” can sound like any other SaaS slogan. onstage, you could see what that time costs people and what they’d rather be doing with it.
- Ramp has earned the right to do something this ridiculous. Brian’s Office, the funeral for the penny, now this. each campaign builds on a sense of humor people already recognize, so the musical feels like the next chapter, not a random stunt.
- they gave people a story to tell. “Ramp launched Bill Pay” is boring af. “Ramp made a Broadway musical about paying bills” is something you tell a friend who doesn’t work in tech.
more of this, please.
