This is why we must have community ownership of the sustainability of open infrastructure. @AfricaPID would not have survived without the co-ownership and support from @UbuntuNet , @AfLIACon , @kenet_ke and PID providers, to mention afew
Open research infrastructure may be free to use, but it is not free to sustain.
Rosalie Lack of @scossfunding highlighted the importance of long-term funding and strategic partnerships to support essential open science infrastructure, including African Journals OnLine (AJOL), #DSpace and Open Journal Systems (OJS).
Sustaining these platforms helps make African research more visible, accessible and available for future generations.

Research impact goes beyond publications and citations.
It also includes the knowledge, tools and solutions that reach communities and influence decisions, and according to Maurice Mutinda of @AfricaPid, we need to learn how repositories, persistent identifiers and indexing services can connect different research outputs, making their contributions easier to trace and assess.
Making research visible, particularly indigenous knowledge, must go hand in hand with protecting community rights, consent and ownership.
