The U.S. government’s flagship international academic exchange program.

Today we remember all those affected by 9/11. Dr. Warren Spielberg, a psychologist and Fulbright alumnus, stepped up to support first responders in the aftermath of 9/11. The day after the tragedy, Spielberg began volunteering at Brooklyn firehouses to help firefighters process, cope, and heal. He later helped launch the Firehouse Project, which placed psychologists in affected firehouses, and supported firefighters through grief and recovery. In his words: “We must honor the dead by making things right for the living.” #NeverForget #Fulbright 📸 1: Dr. Warren Spielberg with his son in front of an FDNY fire engine during the years he worked with New York City firefighters following 9/11. 2: September 11 Memorial overlooking Weehawken, New Jersey, and New York City, NY. This summer, the #FIFAWorldCup returns to American soil for the first time in over thirty years. ⚽🏆🇺🇸 Team USA’s Christian Pulisic, nicknamed “Captain America,” is the most accomplished U.S. men's soccer player in history. His path to soccer greatness is part of a broader Fulbright story. Christian’s mother Kelley Pulisic was a physical education teacher who received a Fulbright award to the United Kingdom and brought her family - including a young Christian – who was immersed in UK soccer culture. His father, Mark Pulisic, credits this Fulbright year with setting his course for soccer stardom, saying “It was only one year, but if you look back it was what propelled him into playing the game...Christian went to play in tournaments and really fell in love, became obsessed with the sport.” Following his family’s Fulbright year, Pulisic became the youngest captain of the U.S. Men's National Team in the modern era and the only American man to compete in and win a UEFA Champions League Final. Fulbright benefits extend beyond individuals to families, communities, and even national soccer teams playing in the World Cup - where the Fulbright Program celebrates a member of its extended Fulbright family! ✨ #Fulbright #FIFAWorldCup Read more: bit.ly/4vMItxJ 📸 1: Christian Pulisic during USMNT v Belgium at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia on March 28, 2026. 2: Christian Pulisic with his father Mark Pulisic, his mother and Fulbright alum Kelley Pulisic and the UEFA Champions League Trophy after the UEFA Champions League Final on May 29, 2021. Fulbrighters reach new heights—even the top of the world. 🏔️ On the anniversary of the first successful American Mount Everest Expedition in 1963, we remember Fulbright alumnus Norman Dyhrenfurth. A Fulbright U.S. Scholar to Italy in 1953, Dyhrenfurth led the ascent that placed five American climbers on Everest’s summit, captured national attention and sparked a wave of public interest in mountaineering. Upon their return, Dyhrenfurth and other members of the expedition were honored with @InsideNatGeo's prestigious Hubbard Medal, awarded only 31 times and reserved for trailblazing explorers including Neil Armstrong. Their story also inspired millions of people in the United States and around the world through the award-winning documentary film Americans on Everest, directed by Dyhrenfurth and narrated by Orson Welles, which became @NatGeo's first television special. This expedition and its legacy exemplify Fulbright leadership and American achievement. 🔗 fulbrightprogram.org/fulbrig… #Fulbright #Freedom250

As the United States launches into a new era of space exploration, we’re highlighting Fulbright alumnus Dr. Harrison Schmitt, the first scientist on a U.S. spaceflight and one of only twelve people to ever walk on the moon. 🚀🌑 Dr. Schmitt landed on the Moon on December 11, 1972, as part of @NASA's Apollo 17 mission. He collected more than 240 pounds of lunar rock samples and captured one of the most famous images of the Earth, known as “The Blue Marble.” His unique career as an astronaut, geologist, and later as a U.S. Senator all started with a Fulbright award to Norway. While studying geology at the University of Oslo, Dr. Schmitt heard news of Sputnik I, the first artificial satellite launched into space. In his own words, “Even this naïve Fulbright student from a ‘small mining town in the West’ could not miss the profound impact Sputnik was having on my student friends from around the world. I also could not help but conclude that Sputnik and the space age it heralded would have a profound effect on human history. Thus, the philosophical seed of interest in spaceflight was planted in my mind.” ✨ 🔗Read more: fulbrightprogram.org/harriso… @NASA @FulbrightNorway #Fulbright #Freedom250 Video Credit: NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center

Two-time Grammy-winning composer and 1999 #Fulbright U.S. Student to the United Kingdom, Christopher Tin, is making history at the 2026 Winter Olympic Games. 🎶 Yuma Kagiyama, Olympic silver medalist representing Japan in figure skating, selected Tin’s powerful new finale for Giacomo Puccini’s Turandot to accompany his performance on February 13. The Games will take place across northern Italy, with figure skating competitions hosted in Milan, where the Turandot premiered in 1926. Tin’s work blends classical traditions with global music influences to connect audiences across the world. Reflecting on his time as a Fulbrighter, Tin says, “My Fulbright experience was pivotal in my development as a young composer finding his voice. It cemented in me the idea that music was uniquely suited to resonating with audiences regardless of language and cultural barriers, and that the most powerful, timeless music is that which speaks to the broadest possible audience and celebrates the best aspects of our shared humanity.” Tin’s journey began at @Stanford, recently named a #Fulbright Top Producing Institution! 🎉🔗Learn more about Christopher Tin: bit.ly/3VBjtJa #Fulbright 📸 1. Can the humble date palm solve global water challenges, and even support life in space? Dr. Ali S. Alshami, an American chemical engineer from the University of North Dakota (UND) is leading innovative research to explore these possibilities as a 2024 #Fulbright U.S. Scholar at Qatar University. Through his Fulbright, Dr. Alshami collaborated with Qatari engineers to develop materials for cost-effective desalination, using fiber particles derived from date palm leaves, which are abundant and sustainable. This innovation will strengthen global water security and improve efficiency in the energy sector. After his Fulbright, Dr. Alshami received a @NASA grant to contribute research for the Bioregenerative Life Support System to be used on the Artemis Mission, which will establish a sustained human presence on the moon. Headed by Dr. Alshami’s research group and in collaboration with UND Space Studies, NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, and private industry partners, the project is field testing the system’s advanced membrane separation processes to recycle resources and grow safe, edible food. This project builds on America’s legacy of leadership in human space exploration. Dr. Alshami’s research will shape water treatment solutions across the U.S., Qatar, and now outer space. The technology also has potential applications in the oil and gas, energy, and food and beverage industries. Dr. Alshami says: “The benefits of Fulbright facilitating this high-profile collaboration are shared by my home university, my home state of North Dakota, and America as a whole.” 📖 Read the full article: fulbrightprogram.org/from-th… @usspaceforce #USSF #Anniversary #Fulbright #SpaceExploration
