👆The Thunderstorm has changed and is now triggered by the community! Rain Coin previously relied on Chainlink Automation to kick off the Thunderstorm at midnight UTC daily. Chainlink decided to sunset Automation in favor of CRE (Chainlink Run-time Environment).
CRE is highly centralized infrastructure in the sense that an authenticated account, approved onboarding and billing profile are required. This brings into question the long-term viability of relying on Chainlink for critical infrastructure.
The solution is even greater decentralization which relies on the Rain Coin community to Strike the Storm. Individuals can connect a wallet and trigger the Thunderstorm earning a RAIN bounty in the process. Community owned bots can also call Strike, eliminating the need for centralized infrastructure.
