Our ★★★★ review of BACKROOMS

Backrooms is an engaging thriller that somewhat tries to put together the online stories of an old urban legend. It's not very scary overall but thoroughly disturbing.

The movie starts with old footage of someone trying to escape from an unknown danger. Then we're presented with the story of a would-be architect and his psychologist. He acquired an old furniture store, renovated it, and was trying to rebuild his life there. That's until he found himself amid paranormal activities in the store and discovered that behind its walls there are endless rooms.

It's not particularly groundbreaking, the third quarter of the movie lags a bit, but fans of the urban legend will love it. The performances are really good, especially Oscar-nominee Renate Reinsvee. Kane Parsons's direction is really impressive, especially considering he's only 20 years old. He definitely has a bright future in cinema.

All in all, Backrooms is a great time at the movies, a psychotic trip through endless rooms and a very inventive attempt to build a mythology from a popular urban legend.
