Bessent is poised to be the most consequential Treasury Secretary since Bretton Woods. Having a little temper would be interesting for a biography but hardly newsworthy compared to what he’s trying to do to the dollar.
Scott Bessent became so angry last year that he threw his briefing book against the wall. Profanity-laced tirades. Staff who avoid the secretary at work. Dramatic firings. An exclusive deep dive inside the tumultuous Treasury department with @schwartzbWSJ, @jdawsey1, and me.

Read the critical reviews of Digger and it becomes clear that most of them are lefties who either didn’t understand the movie or understood it and didn’t like what it had to say about them.
The fact the commie hate Digger is a clear indicator it is not a leftist film

Absolutely insane putting this out in a post Digger world.
The President of the United States is lying to you. Vote his party out of power on November 3.

Why would you go into a movie wanting to hate it?

You paid money to see a movie you expected to hate?

Digger’s biggest mistake was the marketing. It presented as a cringey leftie satire and hid the meta layers of social commentary, and audiences just didn’t want to see the leftie satire. Ironically, the flop undercuts the movie’s indictment of the audience it thought it had.
Saw Digger. Expected and wanted to hate it. But I loved it. First off, John Goodman is off the charts. Made me laugh to tears. Should win the Oscar. Tom Cruise and the supporting cast also gave some of the best performances this year. And it’s visually captivating. [1/5]

Impossible to overstate how much contempt this country holds towards art and artists.

This book is easily the best prose in the high fantasy genre. You just have to go in knowing Rothfuss is never going to finish the trilogy.
I’m debating whether or not to start this book. I gravitate toward non-fiction. When I do read fiction, it’s usually classics. Thoughts on this one? (My husband has read it and thinks I’ll love it.)

[More mild spoilers] The movie is really a critique of artists’ ineptitude to effect change with their screeds. Tom Cruise plays an actor playing Digger. He’s impotent to solve the crisis in his own life & depends on billionaires and women to keep it together & be the hero. [4/5]

[Ending spoiler] The ending goes a step deeper into meta self-criticism. It accuses the audience of getting off to a leftist screed while the world goes to hell. Digger is certainly not a conservative movie. But it’s more than a leftist screed. It’s a clever black comedy.

I might quarantine or take an experimental vaccine voluntarily if normal healthy people my age are dying. It might be rational for any individual to do so. But it every personal’s responsibility to oppose curtailment our civil rights. We owe it to each other and to future generations.
I’m just gonna say this once again— I will NEVER quarantine. I will NEVER wear a mask again. I WILL NEVER INJECT MYSELF WITH AN EXPERIMENTAL VACCINE.

Civil disobedience from day 1. Mike Pence had earned the benefit of the doubt, but he was wrong. I wouldn’t comply with closing churches again without a full-throated endorsement from Thomas, Kavanaugh, and Gorsuch.

Drive’s vibes are 10/10 but almost nobody saw it.
What’s a 10/10 movie you NEVER hear people talk about? Not necessarily some obscure film nobody has heard of, just a genuinely incredible movie that somehow never seems to come up in conversations about great cinema. What’s the first movie that comes to mind?

Nick Bostrom made his name in the tech world with far-out thought experiments about what could happen if Artificial Intelligence goes dreadfully awry. A lot of the doomsday scenarios you’re hearing in the AI conversation today are powerfully influenced by his thought. As guest host on today’s Interesting Times podcast from the @nytimes, I ask him what he thinks a good version of our future could look like—and what risks we should be willing to take to get there. I found the exchange revealing and surprising. nytimes.com/video/opinion/10…
