Developers just figured out a way to hide who sent bitcoin, who received it, and how much moved, without changing Bitcoin itself.
This new proposed idea is not a fork around the protocol or new cryptocurrency. This is how Bitcoin was designed, a base layer people can innovate on without asking permission.
On Thursday, researcher Misha Komarov and colleagues published Shielded Bitcoin, a Zcash-style shielded pool for Bitcoin’s base layer.
Encrypted notes and zero-knowledge proofs ride along in ordinary Bitcoin transactions. Separate software checks that no coins are created from nothing and none are spent twice.
There is no company running the pool, no sidechain, and no soft fork. Funds go in and out through cryptographic vaults Komarov has been building, called PIPEs, so no federation has to hold the bitcoin.
Miners do not enforce the privacy rules. Invalid shielded data can still land in a block, indexers simply ignore it.
The trade is: Bitcoin stays conservative, and the experiment lives on top of it. If it works, private transfers arrive the way most of Bitcoin’s best ideas have, not by rewriting the constitution, but by building on the settlement layer everyone already trusts.

I would like to bring to your attention a serious incident that occurred on Bitget yesterday as a second-order effect of the hack.
Despite the exploit occurring only hours earlier, with withdrawals still frozen, Bitget made a delisting announcement for $DOG.
The combination of the $DOG delisting announcement, the inability for users to withdraw, and broader trust concerns following the hack resulted in a significant price dislocation event for $DOG on Bitget.
Making a delisting announcement while withdrawals are paused, particularly just hours after a major exploit and during a period of heightened market uncertainty, is highly abnormal for an exchange.
This is the type of behavior one might expect from smaller, less reputable exchanges, but not from an established and respected exchange such as Bitget.
As a result, $DOG's price on Bitget has significantly decoupled from prices on other exchanges, directly impacting Bitget users who hold or trade $DOG.
Bitget has been a popular and trusted venue for trading $DOG for two and a half years, and it is disappointing to see longtime $DOG holders negatively affected in this way after being loyal to Bitget for so long.
Furthermore, $DOG is a major cryptocurrency project with one of the strongest and most active memecoin communities in all of crypto.
It is difficult to understand the decision to delist a $100M+ asset like $DOG, which has generated more than $1B in trading volume on Bitget, while the exchange continues to list hundreds of significantly smaller assets with communities that are only a small fraction of the size of the $DOG Army.
On behalf of the $DOG Army, I would therefore like to formally request that Bitget reconsider this decision and reinstate $DOG spot trading.
Doing so would help address the market dislocation created under these unusual circumstances and demonstrate Bitget's commitment to its longtime users.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. We also wish Bitget the best in recovering the stolen assets and resolving any other issues arising from the hack.
