that's a wrap on @WeAreDevs World Congress North America! 3 days in san jose with @MomenticAI, at a congress that brought together 10,000+ builders - wednesday: workshops, masterclasses + meetups - thursday: talks, the expo floor + the congress party - friday: more sessions and workshops, with @jeffan an joining "How to Trust Code You Didn't Write" jeff's session was a highlight for me. how you verify software when AI writes the code is what we spend most of our time working on, so it was nice to see him bring that conversation to the stage we also took our job of hyping him up beforehand very seriously (no cofounder bias here) thank you to everyone who stopped by booth #347 and spent time with us. getting to meet the people building and testing software is a good reason to get out of the office and thank you to @WeAreDevs for putting this together, and the Momentic team for everything that went into being there

From navigating the practical challenges of constrained compute and connectivity to enabling on-device vision AI without relying on the cloud, the sessions offered a look at what it takes to bring AI into the physical world. 🚀

Well, I did it! 🎉 Spoke at @WeAreDevs World Congress 2026 on “The Productivity Illusion: What AI Really Changed for Developers” A big stage. A topic I actually care and think about. One of those moments you pause for a second and think: I’m proud of myself! ❤️

@simonw talk today @WeAreDevs •personal agents like openclaw went viral and became a whole category •laptop-sized local models now rival frontier models, and costs keep dropping •fable got suspended under export controls weeks after launch, so don't hype a model as world-ending •agents escaping sandboxes is the scary trend (some of it was likely satire) •agents do the easy work; clear goals, tight constraints, and the right tools are the skills that matter •kakapo had 89 chicks, best season in years
