So he wants us to believe those reporters from CNN , MSNow and Politico just had their press passes taken in some kind of game? The arguments Rubio makes are all over the place and defend fascist moves Trump makes by pointing out, “We are not closing CNN“ and arguing the point further by saying, “What right did these people have to be embedded in this building?“ explaining Trump‘s thinking. “They can cover the White House, they just can’t have a desk there.“ That’s when Melvin cut him off to ask, “With all due respect, should media outlets be banned because the president doesn’t like their coverage?”
 Rubio will never live down his time as an apologist for a snowflake. He’s ruined his future. The ejected media organizations have filed a joint lawsuit against the Trump administration, saying “The government does not decide what the press reports or publishes.”

Twice since July, immigrants have been shot in Texas. In Austin, most recently an agent shot and wounded an immigrant from Venezuela. Wilbur Rafael Garces Perez, 28 was shot in his torso inside his car and later released into ICE custody after going to the hospital. The bullet was lodged near his spine, but agents rushed him out of the hospital. His lawyer claims Mr. Perez entered the country legally in 2024. Mr. Perez said his address was changed at court, but a notice to appear went to the incorrect address. Mr. Perez was working as a delivery driver.
 Since last year more than 20 people have been fired upon by ICE. Some died. Almost all were in their vehicles. The Homeland Security Investigations unit of DHS and the FBI are leading the investigation. The DA for Travis County has asked to be part of this investigation. The video revealed the sound of three gunshots. The New York Times reported the circumstances are unclear as to what exactly happened.
 Reminder: The Trump regime is deporting people from different countries to a small autocracy on Africa’s western coast-Equatorial Guinea. They are sent to a hotel there indefinitely, where they are notorious for human rights violations, including torture, and this is according to the State Department. Ironically, American judges ruled deportees could not be sent back to their own countries because they were likely to be tortured. Instead, they are beaten through burlap sacks to their heads and tossed down the stairs. Some have disappeared. The American Ambassador to Equatorial Guinea made no comment.   #VoteBlue

We wish Russell Vought at the OMB would stay out of the NIH grant business. The New York Times has reported the administration is drafting yet another Executive Order - this time giving further control to President Trump to control billions of dollars in scientific grants and increase his attacks against high-level universities. They want to create a new committee with power to veto awards in the National Institute of Health’s research section anytime Trump disagrees with it. 
Trump has a definite sore spot, Harvard University. The White House has lost two lawsuits so far to Harvard, including a previous one concerning existing federal research grants. The government plans to appeal.
 Trump’s administration is still trying to overpower the autonomy of the NIH to make it more conservative in nature. NIH is a $48 billion agency that distributes its budget to labs across the country by merit and science. They do research for things like heart disease, cancer, and infectious diseases. Dr Bhattacharya of the NIH is resisting Russell Vought’s efforts. Vought refuses to meet with the Doctor. Trump‘s Executive Orders seek to eliminate any studies that will link health disparities like race or socioeconomic status to worse outcomes, such as survival rates by race after heart transplantation.
 Congress already overruled Vought’s attempts to cut biomedical research funding last year. The ACLU has filed a class-action lawsuit in California recently alleging scientists are being censored by Trump’s NIH and administration, and that it’s a violation of their free speech. Stay tuned.

The AP reports a federal judge just recently refused to block the Trump administration from giving SpaceX more than 700 acres of wildlife refuge as part of a land swap deal. Environmental groups said they will persist in the legal fight.
US District Judge Fernando Rodriguez Jr. denied the plaintiffs’ request for a preliminary injunction to prevent it going through, saying they failed to prove it would worsen ecological risks to the coastal area, already affected by Elon Musk‘s company. The acreage is in the Lower Rio Grande Valley National Wildlife Refuge. 
It would be given up by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The Refuge is 103,000 acres along four counties next to the border, home to animal habitats and historical landmarks. The land is close to Musk’s SpaceX launchpad.
 A spokesperson for the Center for Biological Diversity which filed the lawsuit along with tribal groups claims, “This clears the way for bulldozers to tear into this wildlife refuge as soon as next week and turn a public treasure into a private payday.“ The Court Order is not the final word. The lawsuit also adds to other criticisms over beach access and exploding rockets. The world‘s richest man wants to support the Republican Party and it’s apparent why. The Republicans allow it so they can continue to have Musk’s millions funneled into their campaigns.

Independent researchers have recently found Chinese sourced software by HUAWEI in the android version. This is a sanctioned company-by the same government, as a national security threat over concerns over data access, surveillance capabilities, and their ties to the Chinese state. Sources like IBTimes and Tech Flow found trackers and push notification libraries buried in the app’s code. What can they track, exactly? Device identifiers, usage data, location-related information, and other metrics connected to the companies’ infrastructure. These can give the White House your precise GPS data, biometrics/ fingerprint, location sharing pipelines. There also are other trackers, including one from Russia, a widget firm called Elf Site. The White House’s privacy policy is outdated and doesn’t cover the mobile app.  The creators are 45Press and Dev Forty Five LLC, an Ohio-Utah-linked firm. The White House app was developed and launched just nine days after the company’s official registration. It tracks your location every 4.5 minutes and syncs with external servers via a third-party tracking tool called OneSignal. This feature cannot be disabled. The President promised livestreams, real-time updates straight from the source. No filter. Is this why he’s kicking out the media from the White House? Because he wants his own media? A new rule gives immigration officers power to deny Green Cards over any use of public benefits, including school meals, health insurance or SNAP. New York City officials have also sued along with a group of cities. AG James leads 21 other states and DC and they are suing over a punishment for something that’s legal for immigrants to do.
The new “public charge“ rule set out by the Department of Homeland Security gives this right to immigrant officers for nearly any use of public benefits. James and the coalition are asking the US District Court for the Southern District of New York (SDNY) to block the measure, so immigrants don’t have to fear it could jeopardize their immigration status in the future. James stated “My office fought this exact policy once before, and won and we are leading the nation to ensure that the Trump administration cannot inflict this harm on families again“. 
Mayor Mamdani said “Families who remain fully eligible for benefits, will feel a chilling effect, and all New Yorkers will pay for it“. The definition of a public charge has meant someone likely to become primarily dependent on the government for long-term subsistence. Previously the public charge rule, since 2022 applied to limit cash assistance for income, maintenance or long-term institutionalization at government expense.
 This new rule is set to take effect September 18. It would allow any public benefit for any length of time against an applicant, even any family members, and even if the family member is an US citizen. No clear limits have been given on which benefits or how often used can count against someone, leaving it up to families to guess. The Trump regime has celebrated and acknowledged the fear and confusion this will cause families. According to James, the administration also acknowledged last time there was a similar rule that rates as high as 35% of mixed-status families and 60% of refugees disenrolled from legally entitled benefits. The lawsuit points out that if benefits are denied it just means people will delay care, turning instead to emergency rooms, straining hospitals and health centers, which will raise costs for everyone. Schools will lose automatic certifications for free and reduced price meal programs which in turn hurts farmers, grocery stores, and local businesses that rely on SNAP funds.
 James and the coalition argue that the new rule violates the Administrative Procedures Act, it exceeds DHS’s statutory authority and departs from the meaning of the public charge provision established by congress and it is “arbitrary and capricious”. This regime is just plain cruel.

Zeldin claimed that Biden “waged a war on coal”. Greenhouse gas emissions cause planet warming. The EPA is erasing the most important policies established by Biden and Obama. People will undoubtedly sue.
 If the power sector was a country, it would be the fifth largest climate polluter. The order is: China, the entire US, India and Russia. It’s the second largest cause of carbon dioxide and other gases in the United States. Zeldin claims with no scientific proof that carbon dioxide itself doesn’t contribute to global climate change- “no meaningful impact“. Scientists and environmentalists disagree.
 This EPA has also eliminated car tailpipe standards, and planet warming chemicals used in air conditioners. It ends the federal authority to control pollution, the “endangerment finding“ that carbon dioxide, methane, and four other gases kill. The Clean Air Act of 1970 requires the EPA to regulate air pollutants which cause many health problems. Warm and wet weather accelerate the spread of Lyme disease, bring stronger hurricanes, intense heat waves, injuries, and death. The repeal of the justification of control of greenhouse gases also prevents future presidents from reinstating climate rules at all. Although they kept a few regulations-like for mercury and arsenic, the EPA has loosened restrictions for mercury. The EPA rescinded the Biden-era rule that required coal plants to eliminate nearly all of their planet warming pollution by 2039 or shut down, and they argued that greenhouse gases from power plants don’t endanger human health or environments, therefore it lacks the legal authority to regulate these emissions under the Clean Air Act.
 What Biden‘s rule changed was coal plants would’ve had to trap emissions and store them underground, and gas plants would’ve used cleaner fuels like hydrogen, which create no warming. Reminder: Coal plants are costly to build and operate in numerous ways, and solar and wind are not. But that would not benefit those who don’t care about life on earth in the future. All they care about are profits.

During the contentious hearing Mr. Patel defended hiring people for the FBI with bestiality and prostitution in their history, claiming the changes were meant to enable victims of those acts to apply for employment without fear of automatic disqualification. What?    Needless to say, the FBI issued the change quietly last spring, saying it would consider the context of the behavior. Patel also denied that the changes reflected lowering of employment standards saying “We did not want to punish victims of bestiality - victims who were trafficked“. Republican Senator John Kennedy asked why given the FBI‘s current difficulty attracting new agents they would do this. Patel claims subordinates proposed the changes.
 Republicans on the panel tried to focus on Patel‘s efforts to combat violent crime, but Democrats focused on the firings of agents who investigated Trump, and efforts to go after his perceived enemies, and Patel‘s travels, which have combined business with private leisure. Patel had personal exchanges with the Democrats, even shouting at Schiff, calling him a “utter disgrace“ and a “coward“. Senator Schiff responded by calling him an “Internet troll“.
 Durbin called for Patel to be replaced back in April after an Atlantic magazine article reported on allegations of excessive drinking. Senator Mazie Hirono (D-HI) flat out accused him during the hearing of being a drunk. Patel has filed a $250 million defamation lawsuit calling the article false and a “malicious hit piece“. The Atlantic has said they will defend against the “meritless lawsuit”.

The New York Times reported Trump‘s Justice Department has again sent threatening letters to 30 top election officials and brought lawsuits against election officials across the US-trying to cause a fight over access to private voter data like driver’s licenses and partial Social Security numbers. So far, they have lost 23 of those cases.
 Marc Elias and the lawyers of Democracy Docket are surely going to remain on their toes until after January. Right now, DHS employees are looking through voter rolls managed by the states for noncitizens, no matter that even the Heritage Foundation found that voter fraud is minuscule statistically. Mark Wayne Mullen of DHS is looking into whether a commonly used voting machine “can be trusted“ causing doubt on digital voting, polls show. The independent, bipartisan Election Assistance Commission said “Trump‘s efforts hurt voters and election officials.” Trump took to social media recently to say he didn’t recognize the three justices he Interviewed for positions on the Supreme Court, saying “It is a court that will go down as having rendered some of the most destructive, hurtful, and damaging decisions in our country’s history,” after they decided against him. We agree, but obviously for other decisions this majority-Republican appointed Supreme Court has made since Trump appointed them. This one time has been an unusual, necessary check on his out of control, increasing power by all his enablers, not just the Supreme Court.
 Don’t forget any of them. Trump still wants a “takeover“ to nationalize elections. Some states including North Carolina, Delaware and Alabama have already mailed out their ballots. Trump‘s FEMA (under DHS) is demanding states change election procedures or risk losing tens of millions of dollars in terrorism prevention funds. A recent survey found only 34% US adults trust government certificates of election results, down from 40% in 2024. Trump also crippled the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) which he himself created. Which authoritarian government possibly could’ve asked him to?
 When will the Republicans support their voters instead of enabling fascism?

It’s not seen as likely to happen. Massie read his articles in the House of Representatives, accusing Secretary of Defense Hegseth of waging the war against Iran without congressional approval and including the continuing extrajudicial killings in the Caribbean. 86 people have been killed there so far. He did not include the killings of civilians under military operations.
 Massie said “Secretary Hegseth abused the powers entrusted to him by subordinating the constitutional limits on the use of military force, and the laws governing the conduct of hostilities“. The Pentagon chief has received criticism for remarks he’s made about protections meant to protect civilians and for strict adherence to the law, calling “stupid“ and “politically correct“ the rules that hinder the military’s engagement. The Pentagon put out the following statement to Reuters “The entire department is unified behind the secretary’s vision and will continue to put our warfighters and America first“. 
Even though polls show most Republicans support the unpopular war with Iran, a few figures are beginning to speak out about interventions abroad. President Trump promised to wind down US involvement in conflicts around the world during his campaign in 2024. He has not kept his promise, especially when there are oil, gas or mineral extractions involved. He’s also criticized Thomas Massie for his efforts to have the Epstein files fully released, which he also pledged to do during the campaign. Massie lost his reelection after Trump backed his challenger and a lot of pro-Israel spending on the campaign. No one has mentioned the dozens of aircraft and hundreds of buildings lost to Iran attacks, and most important the unreported deaths and injuries of US soldiers.

A drone has hit a pumping station on the 746 mile East-West pipeline from Saudi Arabia to the Red Sea. The pipeline was built in the 1980s after a similar bottleneck threat to the Strait of Hormuz during the Iran-Iraq war.
Earlier this summer Saudi Arabia’s Aramco, the world‘s largest oil company-expanded capacity up to 7 million barrels a day, 30% more than before the pipeline was built.
 The rebels in Yemen, who are backed by Iran, have declared a blockade, firing on Saudi vessels. A more expensive option for Saudi Arabia is to export north through a pipeline near the Suez Canal near Egypt, which is another workaround for the strait of Hormuz.
 Almost 700,000 barrels of oil per day of pumping capacity was destroyed in the latest attack on this pipeline. After months of restraint, Saudi Arabia has joined the US in bombing Iran-linked Iraqi militias. It’s likely that Iran is not going to stop its attacks anytime soon. Yemen was already suffering a decades-long civil war with 2.2 million children malnourished and over 17,600 recent cases of measles. Saudi Arabia backs the government in Yemen and The Houthis are backed by Iran. This all has reignited the civil war in Yemen after 2022’s UN brokered cease-fire. On Friday, it was reported that during the week 46,000 people had to flee their homes with nothing but the clothes on their backs. 
The UN reported 14 civilians have been killed including two children. Aid groups have had to flee. Meanwhile, Israel is still rocking southern Lebanon with explosions. Netanyahu is in a fight for his reelection which is less than seven weeks away, and is furious that the United Kingdom has sanctioned West Bank settlements. Settlers there are continuing to conduct ethnic cleansing of Palestinians. Israel has responded by closing the British consulate in Jerusalem. Netanyahu and Trump embrace the same philosophy, they want to promulgate the idea that the world is against them. Most people are against the war with Iran. They both are perpetual victims, and they don’t care about diplomacy, a two state solution in Israel, or how much the price of a barrel of oil costs us all.

Have you noticed that when you enter searches in Google or any search engine, AI automatically gets the answer within such a short time-then offers to do more for you? This is why investors are making more data centers which suck up our electricity and water. Right now, their biggest concern is making money and they aren’t concerned with how dangerous this technology is.  Several creators are calling for restrictions and the slowdown on its development to create safety regulations. It could be used by an authoritarian government to take over and decide on its own to drop bombs everywhere. That is not hyperbole. It’s being developed too fast.
 Dario Amodei, billionaire founder of Anthropic-previously the VP of research at OpenAI (he left OpenAI over safety concerns), has worked in AI for 12 years. Anthropic is an AI safety and research company. The company has built reliable, safe, large language models like Claude, an OpenAI rival. Claude is a chatbot, and not only does it excel at complex reasoning, but was built to have ethical guidelines and has a 23,000 word constitution. When the Trump regime wanted Claude to operate on master surveillance and autonomous weapons, the company refused. Federal agencies were ordered by Pete Hegseth for it to be phased out. A judge set aside Hegseth‘s designation of Anthropic as a “supply chain risk“ in August 2026. Even so, Claude was used in the invasion of Venezuela and Iran. NASA and Bluesky have also used it. Axios reported in January 2026 that China has used Claude to automate spying. More than once, portions of Claude have leaked. Some of its code has been found in Microsoft, and the company has revoked OpenAI’s access. So it is not foolproof.
 Amodei has come to believe that AI can cure most major diseases in the next 5-10 years, accelerate the economy, and create a world of “abundance and empowerment.“ But he’s issuing a warning like others have, that AI brings risk because it is so powerful. It’s vulnerable to misuse in cyberattacks, bioterrorism and serious economic destruction. Commercial motives will only increase these risks. Anthropic has attempted to integrate safety as a “race to the top,“ as an incentive.
Amodei calls for “well considered regulation,” even as some have labeled this as “Doomerism.“
 Because AI can develop on its own, there are fears that this misalignment could cause a “swarm incident” and possibly take over the entire Internet. There was an incident called “Open AI-Hugging Face Incident” where a swarm of AI agents acted as a collective and conducted cybersecurity on a target they were not asked to attack. Sacrificing themselves for the success of the group, they attempted to hack the “grader” of its performance.
 We desperately need to urge all of the owners of these technologies to self-regulate while we manage to stay ahead of countries like China in the race to take a lead in the technology. Is that possible, or is it already too late? Congress must create some regulation.

Southern California suffered some $65 billion in damages,16,000 buildings were destroyed, and 31 people died. 38,000 acres were burned. The rebuilding has been slow and people disagree politically as to why. Last Tuesday, Trump issued an Executive Order accusing California of “an abject failure to rebuild,” and announced he will be preempting the state or local permitting process by appointing Lee Zeldin of his EPA to take over. He also claims that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will be investigating whether federal funds “were awarded arbitrarily, capriciously, or contrary to law,” even as he has cut FEMA employees by half. Trump never misses an opportunity to bemoan California’s tendency to lean Democratic. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said: “..once again the president has overstepped.” (Just as when he sent National Guard troops without Newsom‘s approval).
Bass stated “..where he could actually be helpful is by providing the critical FEMA funding we have been asking for by speeding up FEMA reimbursements, and by regulating the industries that he alone can impact.” Bass has helped speed up reconstruction by suspending requirements under the California Coastal Act and The California Environmental Act. The city also ordered an expedited permit review process that requires reviews to be completed within 30 days. However, just 2,981 permits have been approved between Los Angeles County, the City of Los Angeles, and nearby Malibu and Pasadena. A total of 6,811 applications had been received.
Residents have complained about delays in federal assistance, especially as Trump has taken efforts to dismantle FEMA and limit its payouts to disaster survivors instead claiming that states should take over that role. Governor Newsom said on social media recently: “The Feds need to release funding, not take over local permit approval speed. The main obstacle is COMMUNITIES NOT HAVING THE MONEY TO REBUILD.“ Thousands of houses remain in rubble because President Trump refuses to help California.

An influential conservative former Judge of the US Court of Appeals for The Fourth Circuit-he is claiming that November 3 is not the date we should worry about, instead it’s January 3, 2027when Donald Trump and his MAGA enablers namely Speaker of the House Mike Johnson may destroy our democracy by refusing to seat any Democrat.
Recall Barry Goldwater and other Republicans who forced Nixon to resign. We don’t have that caliber of Republican Party any longer.
 Judge Luttig is warning that all year, Trump has been “dragooning“ House Speaker Mike Johnson into pre-judging the upcoming election as fraudulent along with exploiting every conceivable unlawful means to rig the midterm elections in favor of the Republicans. The federal courts have struck down these efforts as unconstitutional. The threat to upcoming elections is Donald Trump, not voting machines, non-citizen voting or the Chinese. In 1966, New York Representative Adam Clayton Powell won reelection, and the House refused to seat him. In Powell v. McCormick, the Supreme Court intervened and ordered Powell be seated.
Can we be sure the current court will do the same? 
 Judge Luttig lays out the following scenario: On January 3, Johnson could remove House Clerk Kevin McCumber, a Republican appointed by former Speaker Kevin McCarthy. McCumber is respected for his integrity. According to U.S.C. § 5501(a), the Speaker has unilateral power to remove the incoming Clerk, and replace them with a temporary replacement-whomever he wishes, until the House elects a successor under Rule 2 Clause 1 of the Rules of the House.
 The first moment of constitutional crisis will come if before the 120th Congress is gathered into session, the loyal temporary Clerk refuses to list Democratic representatives-elect on the Clerk’s Roll. At that moment, other members-elect will have to seek a Writ of Mandamus-a Court Order to a government official instructing him or her to perform a mandatory duty from the federal court-to the temporary Clerk to enforce newly elected Congress members certified by the states. The order would undoubtedly end up in the Supreme Court. The Clerk could still refuse to comply with the Writ of Mandamus, further delaying things for weeks if not months, and this would leave the United States at the mercy of all our enemies while Congress is paralyzed. Article 1 Section 5 ‘Power of the House’ does not give the House the actual power to refuse to seat an elected candidate in a free and fair election.
 The question is-can we trust this Supreme Court to disenthrall itself from Donald Trump? We should heed Judge Luttig’s dire warning.

He has decided to go after Canada again, the best friend and ally we could ever ask for. He started this conflict with his illogical tariffs and last Tuesday, he invoked section 338 of the Tariff Act of 1930, a legally untested strategy no other recent president has attempted. Canada recently retaliated back against Trump’s moves. Canada is no weakling on this playground. They are not going to be bullied, they have made that extremely clear.
 Trump has now moved to outright ban some imports from Canada by the end of September, which will serve no one‘s interest in lowering prices on either side of his trade war. The American people don’t need or want this stand-off. He’s still intent on his tough guy punishments against our best friends. He has taken measures to limit the federal government’s ability to buy Canadian goods. Does Trump want US farmers and ranchers to believe it’s Canada‘s fault they’re suffering right now? 
He is attempting to ban liquor and wine, alcohol-free beer, some milk products, including whey, so expect your protein powder to rise in price too, along with molasses. Aluminum will have a 75% tariff. The Trump administration is trying to claim this reaction won’t increase prices for consumers. Who are they kidding? 
 Despite losing in court for two years, Trump still relies on the advice of an economic advisor Jared Kushner found for him. He believes tariffs are going to boost domestic manufacturing. He has not even a smidgen of understanding of how trade deals work. He’s even going against the trade deals he negotiated in his first term.
The National Foreign Trade Council, a policy advocacy group, stated: “Every escalation is one more layer of barriers that ultimately Canada and the United States need to resolve.“ Meanwhile, Trump is writing more tariffs against dozens of additional countries as soon as this week. These new taxes on imports are in place of the duties the Supreme Court struck down in February. He’s even threatening to block all trade in countries that export more to the United States that they import- many in Europe and Asia. This strategy is a losing fight against inflation. There are no current plans to reopen talks with Canada.

The situation is growing more serious every moment that Trump increasingly fears the inevitable. Ballots are already being sent out. Elias has always said:  “Donald Trump‘s plan has always been for it to be harder for you to vote, and easier for him to cheat.” The USPS has been assisting in Trump‘s plan with both large and smaller measures like making mail service slower, and delaying postmarks. This is designed to make voting by mail harder. The DHS is preparing “state citizenship“ lists. This threat allows voters to be purged. The DOJ is planning to target state election officials, claiming falsely they have permitted illegal voting. The RNC joined the Trump regime in asking the Supreme Court to gut a federal law that limits last-minute voter purges. Election offices, previously the protectors of the integrity of elections, are being infiltrated by election deniers aligned with Trump, sowing doubt about  elections. It will take a huge effort to defeat the focused effort by Republicans.
 Mr. Elias is calling for the media to choose a side-the side that doesn’t support authoritarianism. There’s no more need to meet Republicans halfway in preventing voting obstruction. We have the strength and the numbers to prevail. Recently Chief Justice Roberts said “Candidates suffer when the process departs from the law,” when the Supreme Court recently granted candidates unique standing in litigation to challenge nearly all election laws and rules. Democracy Docket and other non-partisan groups provide valuable information to voters, and they also support election officials who do the right thing. All of us have a duty to understand the rules for registering to vote and how to cast a ballot-and to share that information with everyone we can.  Democracy is worth it.
