This post is getting so much hate from the S&C community. Respectfully, STFU.
Is this beneficial from a physical perspective? On paper, no. And you wonβt find a bigger advocate for βsmartβ training. But the coaches didnβt make him do this. If the coaches made him do this, Iβd understand the complaints.
Is this the reason the kid is going D1? Highly doubtful. Iβve seen way too many lazy kids do the bare minimum & get drunk every weekend go D1. Give me the over-worker vs. the under-worker 100/100 times.
There is a VERY small demographic of kids who are the hardest workers on the team, who still believe they arenβt working hard enoughβ¦ they still believe that they arenβt doing ENOUGHβ¦
And in this kidβs mind, this is exactly what it takes. And this is where he finds his edge to be successful.
As a coach, you NEVER take away that edge from that athlete.
Find common ground, give that athlete every recommendation & resource possible on resting, recovering, and βsmartβ training. Figure out ways he/she can better use their time to be productive. Pour everything into this athlete. But donβt take away that edge.
The Over-Worker > The Under-Worker
