Tried to pin down one number this morning. The going rate for a single enterprise GPU-hour.
Opened five rental listings. Got five prices. Not close either.
That's the gap this first Compute as an Asset piece from
@TheDAOLabs leaves open, and I don't mean that as a knock. The article checks every commodity box. Tradable. Scarce. Moves with supply and demand. Has a resale market.
What it doesn't have yet is a reference price everyone quotes.
Oil traders argue about plenty. They don't argue about where to look up the price. A shared benchmark is boring plumbing. It's also what lets a buyer and a seller skip the haggling, and what lets a third person write a contract on top of the trade.
Until GPU-hours get that, it's a market the way a night market is a market. Real trades. Every stall with its own price.
The same thing is quietly true for
#SocialMining. Points exist. A public reference for what one unit of contribution is worth doesn't.
Benchmark first. Then it's a commodity.
Machine + electricity = market-priced output.
The logic behind Bitcoin and Social Mining is now turning raw processing power into AI’s new oil.
Here is what “compute” actually means, how GPU-hours trade, and why it matters.
