In Matthew 24, the disciples did not ask Jesus about the end of the world. They asked Him about the end of the age.
Jesus and the New Testament writers repeatedly spoke as people living at the close of something. Paul said the “ends of the ages” had come upon them. Hebrews says Jesus appeared at the “end of the ages.” John said they were living in the “last hour.”
The “last days” were never supposed to describe the final years of planet Earth. They were the last days of an entire covenantal world... What we call the Old Covenant.
The temple. The priesthood. The sacrifices. The law-centered system. The old way humanity understood access to God.
This was ending, but creation was not.
and actually, something was beginning.
And if we keep placing their ending in our future, we will continue to completely miss the world Jesus actually brought us into.
