It’s almost October!!! For over 10 years now, I’ve collected old winter clothes & blankets throughout the year and I go give them to the homeless in my community I usually end up with a few dozen trash bags full of donations Me and the wife used to buy a bunch of breakfast sandwiches & go around to the multiple homeless camps in my area and give them out with the clothes. We give out hats, gloves, blankets, coats, underwear, socks, pants, sweaters etc It’s always a success! I don’t take videos or pictures for clicks because i refuse to document people at their lowest points in life. We’ll probably have to skip the sandwiches this year, but we have about 15 bags of donations ready to go! I share this to encourage others. People are homeless for all types of reasons & we shouldn’t judge them So I challenge YOU to grab some old blankets or coats and just put them in your car. And when you see a homeless person on the street this winter, just offer it to them. That’s it! Easy! You do a good deed, you make somebodies day, and you might even save a life!! 💚🇺🇸

Friends, it was one of the signal privileges of my life to preach the homily on the vigil of Archbishop Fulton Sheen’s beatification. I reflected on his life through the three paths of friendship with Jesus Christ that we see embodied in him: the breakthrough of grace, the knowledge that one is a sinner, and the path of mission. Friends for this Twenty-fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time, we hear a story from Jesus that tends to bother everybody: the parable of the laborers in the vineyard. We’re meant to hear our own voices in the complaint of these workers. Dealing with God, we often think things are unfair. Why does he do what he does? I’d like to get at this with a clarification that comes out of the heart of the spiritual tradition: You don’t fall in love with the benefits of God; you fall in love with God.

I’m on a roll about penance! I spoke about the Ember Days, I spoke about Friday -- but we’re also in solidarity with our Jewish friends and neighbors, as this weekend they enter the solemn holy day of Yom Kippur. Our Jewish neighbors are a great example for us as we wish them the fullness of blessings! @thegnewsroom

In the wisdom of the Church, every Friday is an invitation to self-sacrifice because Friday is the day Our Savior died for us on the Cross. Jesus invites us to take up our cross and follow Him! Whatever you do, Fridays are a good day for some penance. @thegnewsroom

In the old days, we would observe the “Ember Days,” days of penance in the fall and spring. It was a great call to repentance, to turn to Jesus on the Cross, who died for our sins as Our Savior, and avail ourselves of that mercy through our own acts of sacrifice, prayer, and penance. It’s a great idea, isn’t it? We shouldn’t forget it! @thegnewsroom
