Sometimes, I join X Spaces and listen to intelligent young Nigerians passionately defending their preferred oppressors, and I genuinely wonder: How did we get here? Many of these young people are far more intelligent, educated, and capable than the politicians they spend hours defending. Yet, instead of using that brilliance to question power, demand accountability, and challenge a system that has repeatedly failed them, they use it to rationalise the failures of the same political class holding their future hostage. If the only thing Sowore achieves is helping to awaken young Nigerians from this mindset, then so be it. That awakening alone would be significant. How can vibrant, talented youths spend the prime of their lives defending politicians who have contributed little to their future, only to sit around analysing their politicians' stolen wealth, political connections, and influence as though those things are achievements to be celebrated? Our youthfulness should be spent challenging oppression, demanding better leadership, and building the country we deserve, not defending the very people and systems that keep limiting our possibilities.
