Republican-minded people should be careful not to turn this into a protest centred on British courts or the British-run Parades Commission. Those institutions have no legitimate authority to decide the rights of the Irish people. The proper place to stand is with the residents of the Garvaghy Road, not in a theatre of legality that only strengthens the structures of British rule in Ireland. This should not be reduced to political point-scoring by constitutional nationalist organisations. The issue is simply that the residents do not want an Orange march imposed on their community.
