Layman's version: The “no anonymous domain found” argument is missing an important part of the history. The screenshot being shown is a later WHOIS record from 2011 showing Louhi Net Oy. But the original bitcoin.org registration was created on 18 August 2008, and historical WHOIS records from that period identify AnonymousSpeech LLC. That matters because AnonymousSpeech wasn't just some unrelated name that appeared later. Satoshi was also using AnonymousSpeech email infrastructure around the same period. There's another separate piece of evidence: the AnonymousSpeech account screenshot circulating before the COPA v Wright trial shows bitcoin.org listed inside an AnonymousSpeech hosting/account interface, including domain registration and hosting. CSW subsequently claimed that he had paid AnonymousSpeech for bitcoin.org using his NAB credit card. A purported bank screenshot showing a $687 payment to Anonymous Speech on 30 August 2008 was later found to be inauthentic, so that particular screenshot cannot be relied upon as proof of payment. But that's an important distinction: A forged piece of evidence proving a transaction does not, by itself, prove that the underlying transaction never happened. The real question is whether an independently authenticated bank, merchant, or AnonymousSpeech record can establish what happened on 30 August 2008. So the evidence needs to be separated: 2008: bitcoin.org registered through AnonymousSpeech 2008–09: Satoshi communications used AnonymousSpeech infrastructure 2010: historical WHOIS still showed AnonymousSpeech 2011: WHOIS later changed to Louhi 2021: the AnonymousSpeech account screenshot was already circulating before the COPA trial Later: CSW claimed he had paid for the domain and produced banking evidence that was challenged and ultimately found unreliable. None of that, standing alone, proves who Satoshi was. But saying “AnonymousSpeech was never used to register bitcoin.org” is simply not an accurate description of the historical record. That's why the original 2008–2011 registration, hosting and payment records are worth examining rather than collapsing everything into the later Louhi WHOIS screenshot.
