On this day, President Abraham Lincoln issued the Preliminary Emancipation Proclamation. In it, he declared free people enslaved in the rebel states except for areas under Union control. It was one of the important milestones in the War of the Rebellion.
My latest publication arrived today. I contributed an essay on Lincoln and the Border States to the Wiley Companion on the 16th President. It was an honor to stand amidst a gathering of talented scholars.

Great news! My next article will appear in the Fall edition of The Lincoln Herald. It is entitled ""These Absurd Conclusion: Abraham Lincoln and the Constitutionality of West Virginia." It will be the second time that I published two works in one year - the last was 2017.
