The history of Rabbit, an obscure fighting game time forgot:
Rabbit (羅媚斗) is a 1997 2D fighter from tiny studio Aorn, and one of those fighting games that vanished before anyone noticed it existed.
Aorn was a short-lived Japanese studio that picked up a handful of staff who’d previously worked at SNK and Atlus. They created a colorful, goofy fighter with a strong Chinese aesthetic.
The signature mechanic is that every fighter has a “beast god” animal spirit they can summon. In single-player you steal the defeated opponent’s spirit and can call it later as a super. The idea is extremely close to JoJo’s Stands, and Capcom’s own JoJo fighter arrived a year later and works in a similar way.
There was a Saturn port released through Electronic Arts the same year.
