With the decimation of the U.S. Department of Education looming as Project 2025 is implemented, here are multiple opportunities for Seattleites to stand up for public education, the union rights of educators, and the revenue we need to fund it all.
Between school closure meetings, a bargaining listening session, a community teach-in and forum, a rep assembly, and school board meeting, there is a lot happening in the next week.

ALT With three days of notice, SPS held their first on-site school closure meeting at Sacajawea Elementary on Thursday, November 7. SPS expresses that on-site meetings are meant to support the impacted school communities. The public hearings will begin in December. As soon as possible, we need to hold a special session of the Washington State Legislature to expand funding for state programs, bolster civil liberties, and reinforce support for vulnerable populations.
Past achievements are admirable, but the time for urgency is now.

With due respect, our competition was an austerity mindset that keeps our state locked in a downward spiral of divestment from vital social services.
We won by roughly the same margin that Washingtonians elected to retain its capital gains tax for public education and childcare.
