Introducing Henry Yuan, ARTIFACT Futures' Venture Partner. Henry is a technical entrepreneur and builder, working across software engineering, cybersecurity, AI, embedded systems, and IoT. He has built a product that reached more than 1.2 million users within two months, delivered software solutions for Fortune 500 companies, and won ten hackathons with more than $50,000 in prizes. Across these experiences, he has developed a practice shaped by rapid experimentation, technical curiosity, and the ability to turn emerging technologies into working systems. Beyond building products, Henry is interested in what becomes possible when different kinds of technical and entrepreneurial knowledge meet. He brings together builders, founders, and researchers, creating connections between frontier technologies, entrepreneurial practice, and new forms of collaboration. We are delighted to welcome Henry to ARTIFACT Futures as Venture Partner, where he will work with us to identify emerging possibilities, connect ambitious builders and ideas, and develop new collaborations at the intersection of technology, culture, and contemporary thought.

Introducing our Builder-in-Residence, Xiaoben Liu As a recipient of the ARTIFACT Futures Builder-in-Residence Fellowship, Xiaoben will spend one month in Hanoi exploring mind uploading and digital afterlife technologies, drawing on interdisciplinary perspectives from philosophy of mind, psychology, neuroscience, and artificial intelligence. Xiaoben is the founder of Everlasting AI. He holds bachelor's and master's degrees in Philosophy from Nanjing University, and his research spans the philosophy of artificial intelligence, AI4Science, and Whole Brain Emulation (WBE). Working from a foundation in philosophy of language alongside existing technological approaches, he is developing a theoretical framework for mind uploading that brings these fields into conversation. His paper, "The First Paradigm of Consciousness Uploading: The Evolutionary Mechanism of Consciousness in the AI Axial Age and a Forward Look at Web4," received the 2025 Berggruen Essay Prize for Young Philosophers. He is also a co-founder of Nanckathon and NJU Founders Club. Through Everlasting AI, Xiaoben is working to translate digital afterlife from a speculative concept into a platform for recording life stories, preserving family memories, and creating interactive digital twins and personal AI for remembrance through AI. Building on his research, he has proposed a four-tier roadmap for mind uploading. This includes the .mind format, designed to encode a person's voice, video, and written thoughts into Human-Life Model (HLM) - a framework that uses only an individual's data to capture their values, life story, and decision-making traits, and TTFD (Turing Test for Digital Life) - a fidelity benchmark for quantitively evaluating how closely digital entities replicate their human counterparts, alongside informed-consent and data-collection protocols intended to address ethical considerations. Introducing our Builder-in-Residence, GH As a recipient of the ARTIFACT Futures Builder-in-Residence Fellowship, GH will spend one month in Hanoi exploring the intersections of technology, art, and infrastructure, and how related practices, communities, and forms of knowledge take shape across different contexts. His area of inquiry also draws on research in computer graphics, bringing technology and art together toward new forms of expression. GH is the founder of The Gather Company and previously worked across iOS development and design at Bonjour!, a standout startup that grew out of China's builder community. Through The Gather Company, he looks at how people gather and how these dynamics shift from one culture and place to another. During the Fellowship, GH is developing an embedded design studio that works within organizations to understand their content, workflows, and rhythms of delivery, then builds systems that can continue to operate within those structures. He is also collaborating with fellow Builder-in-Residence Timothy Shen on the visual system of Creader.io. Across these projects, his work continues to examine how technology, design, and systems can shape new forms of expression, while asking what people build together can be gathered, organized, and carried forward. Introducing our inaugural Builder-in-Residence, Timothy Shen As the first recipient of the ARTIFACT Futures Builder-in-Residence Fellowship, Timothy will spend one month in Hanoi exploring the relationship between artificial intelligence, writing as a form of knowledge production, and the digital infrastructures that increasingly support creative work. Tim is an AI systems architect and founder of @Creader_io, working across technology, cognitive research, and complex systems. With a background in High-Performance Computing from the University of Edinburgh, he previously served as Infrastructure Partnership Lead at Story Protocol and Head of DevRel at FLock.io. His work today focuses on developing new forms of cognitive research and storytelling infrastructures. Through @Creader_io, Tim is developing a narrative engine designed to help writers maintain coherence across long-form fiction. Rather than generating stories on their behalf, Creader works alongside writers to remember, organize, and develop the worldbuilding they have already imagined. During the Fellowship, Tim will continue developing Creader while exploring how AI might support the structures behind storytelling without replacing the creative vision and agency of the writer. What does it mean to build with time to think? At ARTIFACT Futures, the Builder-in-Residence Fellowship is conceived as a space for interdisciplinary research, experimentation, and the gradual accumulation of knowledge. This program supports builders and technologists whose work benefits from stepping outside familiar environments and engaging with new cultural, intellectual, and disciplinary contexts. Based in Hanoi, the Fellowship offers time and space to pursue a question, test an existing method or technology in a new context, or develop work already underway. Participants are encouraged to arrive with a clear proposition while remaining open to conversation, research, and unexpected directions that emerge along the way. Alongside Journal and Programme, the Fellowship is one of the three interconnected practices of ARTIFACT Futures, allowing ideas to emerge through time, reflection, conversation, observation, and sustained engagement with people, places, and questions.

This issue explores memory, knowledge, creativity, responsibility, and what it means to remain human in an age of increasingly intelligent systems. We look for answers not only in studios, laboratories, and technologies, but also in the longer histories of intelligence, creativity, memory, and culture that continue to shape how we think, build, and live. ARTIFACT Futures x ElevenLabs | Reimagine the voice of Lord Frederic Leighton At historic Leighton House, the former home and studio of Frederic, Lord Leighton, ARTIFACT Futures and ElevenLabs presented an experiment of listening, immersion and shared understanding. Using ElevenLabs' voice technology, Lord Leighton's own voice was reconstructed from historical description and imagined cadence, and given back to the house he built. Guests could call him directly, asking about the collection he assembled across a lifetime, or about the rooms themselves. A second experimental experience extended the same idea to individual works of art scattered through the house, each willing to speak about itself to anyone who put on headphones and asked. Jointly presented by ARTIFACT Futures and ElevenLabs, this unique experience sits at the heart of An Evening at Leighton House Museum. For ARTIFACT Futures, this reflects a broader conviction that some of the questions of our time call for bringing different forms of knowledge into conversation, through encounters, experiments, and shared making. For ElevenLabs, it offers an opportunity to explore voice AI within a cultural context, where technology can mediate a relationship between people and the histories, objects, and ideas that surround them. These perspectives came together for new ways of listening to the past, while raising questions about how we choose to encounter, interpret, and carry it forward. An Evening at Leighton House brought a diverse group of minds into one room, fostering meaningful exchanges that resonated deeply with the occasion and the belief underneath it – that the oldest questions about memory, meaning, and making can lean on the newest tools to uncover their complexities, and that the people building those tools have as much to learn from an archive, as an archive might unexpectedly gain from them.

London Forum | An Evening at @LeightonHouse_ Following the London Forum at the British Library, the programme continued the next evening at Leighton House Museum, the former home and studio of Frederic, Lord Leighton. Presented in partnership with @ElevenLabs , the gathering brought together speakers, partners, collaborators, and invited guests to a setting where art, architecture, history, and conversation naturally converged. Throughout the evening, discussions that began during the Forum continued across the museum's galleries and shared tables, creating space for new encounters and lasting connections. Rather than marking an ending, the gathering reflected ARTIFACT Futures' belief that some of the most meaningful exchanges happen beyond the stage. Through conversation, hospitality, and the experience of sharing a historic place together, the evening extended the Forum's commitment to bringing different disciplines, perspectives, and communities into dialogue. London Forum | Keynote Dr. Daniel Glaser | Building Spaces for Innovation Closing the London Forum, Dr. Daniel Glaser reflected on the role of institutions in fostering interdisciplinary collaboration across art, science, and technology. Drawing on his experience as a neuroscientist, cultural leader, and educator, he argued that innovation emerges not from disciplines working in isolation, but from creating spaces where different ways of seeing the world can meet, challenge one another, and generate new forms of knowledge. Moving between visual neuroscience, contemporary art, museum practice, and artificial intelligence, Dr. Glaser explored how perception is shaped by experience, expectation, and cultural context. Through examples ranging from the ArtScience Museum Singapore and Science Gallery London to his current work at Google DeepMind, he considered how institutions can cultivate narrative generosity, public participation, and meaningful dialogue across disciplinary boundaries.
