Since 2022 AA has:
- Spent ~20 million dollars to get Jarred Kelenic
- Spent 42 million dollars or Jurickson Profar (and pocketed the money returned from his suspensions)
- Trade William Contreras for Sean Murphy
- Let Fried walk with no replacement
- Spent 16 million on Aaron Bummer
- Spent 30 million on Reynaldo Lopez
- Let Dansby walk with no replacement
- Spent 20 million on Ha Seong Kim
- Zero notable or significant additions via free agency
This is not to say he doesnโt have good moves, but a handful of good moves doesnโt override all of the bad. I also wont act like the outcome of some of these were predictable (Profar). But time and time again AA refuses to just hand out a slightly larger contract so he tries to make these gritty moves that end in us wasting money anyway. Kelenic and Kim are perfect examples. Instead of just being willing to pay the big names, we go out and spent 20 million on Kim (whoโs track record was bad over the last season and a half) and eat another 25+ million on Kelenic.
Iโm not saying just hand out a stupid 300 million dollar contract to do it. But when you have guys like Arozarena available for around 5/125, those are the type of guys you be willing to pay for. A guy you know rises up in the big moments but is also a consistent and solid addition year round.
Rant over, but somethingโs gotta change. That World Series high is gone, itโs been 6 years of completely failure sense. Somethingโs gotta change
AA is gonna have to grow a pair. He canโt keep dodging real money contracts for these Knick knack gritty deals. Of all the money heโs spent and all the pieces heโs traded heโs brought in 3 players worth of any value to the team. 3
