What a great read. It's so annoying how they immediately jump to criminalizing and animalizing black youth. Me and a co-worker was just talking about how this situation was inevitable at an event as large as AFRAM. Mayor Scott is my guy, he champions the youth, but woefully overlooked them and dropped the ball on this one.
At some point, we have to accept the fact that we are the new aunties and uncles now and we have to have as much say as the elders - and blame too.

i will comment though that criminalizing these kids doesn’t seem like the right way.

This week, we celebrated the accomplishments of our brothers at Green Street Academy & The SEED school for our end of year ceremony’s . It took a great deal of hard work to build out these programs this year. We experienced adversity, but our brothers rose to the occasion

Calling on my village… one of my Mentees is experiencing a mental health crisis and is in need of immediate inpatient psychiatric care. His mother is having extreme difficulty getting him placed because a lot of hospitals here don’t have beds for kids, only adults.
