New legislation proposed by the Government today on UK medical graduate prioritisation is a step forward but more is needed to solve this absurd job crisis. Read our press release in full👇 bma.org.uk/bma-media-centre/…

The system is ridiculous - train them to be doctors and then there are no jobs! When offered a training job they don't even get a real choice of the location.

The additional issue is a training post may be anywhere in the UK. These are 25+ year old adults who are given no choice of where the training post will be. Ridiculous when you and your long term partner are both doctors and want to live in the same area.
Despite years of studying and training resident doctors are facing an unemployment crisis. This year, more than 30,000 doctors applied for just 10,000 specialty training places. Fixing the specialty training crisis is crucial – for doctors and patients bma.org.uk/news-and-opinion/…

Doctors are there in our most critical moments. They care. They heal. They don’t strike lightly. Junior doctors are asking for just £4 more an hour — many carry £100k+ in debt. The govt must negotiate in good faith with @TheBMA. Solidarity with striking doctors. #DoctorsStrike
Northern doctors sent a clear message today that no doctor is worth less than a doctor in 2008 The power to end these strikes lies squarely with @wesstreeting - he must make a meaningful offer to reverse our pay erosion and continue the journey to fair pay #DoctorsStrike

Doctors play a vital role at key moments in our lives. They care for us. They cure us. They do not take the decision to strike lightly. They are striking for an extra £4 per hour for first year doctors with £100,000 student debt. The government needs to move on this. Solidarity

Todays picket at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham🪧 £22.67/hr is not an unreasonable ask. Doctors have subsidised the NHS for far too long. Perhaps @wesstreeting needs reminding that the power to stop these strikes lies squarely with the government. @BMAResidents
