Since 2019, the Kampke Shelter in the Federal Capital Territory, established by Christian Women for Excellence and Empowerment in Nigerian Society (CWEENS)
@cweensfct, has supported 165 survivors of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV).
With funding from
@CanHCNigeria through the Women’s Voice and Leadership (WVL) Nigeria Project and now the Renewed Women’s Voice and Leadership Nigeria (RWVL) Project, ActionAid Nigeria provided a sub-grant to establish the shelter and has continued to strengthen CWEENS’ organisational capacity, GBV programming and coordination with key actors.
During a visit to the shelter, ActionAid Nigeria’s Country Director,
@AndrewMamedu , joined a GAC delegation led by Ms Emi Furuya, Director General for the West Africa and Maghreb Bureau. The delegation also included Mr Arash Irantalab, Counsellor and Head of Development Cooperation, and Josephine Obinyan, International Assistance Officer.
The visit highlighted the importance of investing in women-led organisations to strengthen support for survivors and advance a Nigeria where women and girls can live free from violence.
