Belgium’s top threat-analysis official, Gert Vercauteren, says the perpetrators of two attacks earlier this year “certainly” acted on instructions from Tehran’s calls to strike Jewish and Israeli targets worldwide.
The attacks — an explosion outside a synagogue in Liège and an arson attack in Antwerp’s Jewish quarter — are now being linked to a broader Iranian-directed campaign targeting Jewish sites across Europe.
Authorities uncovered cross-border connections to additional plots, including a planned synagogue bombing in the Netherlands that was foiled. A suspected organizer of the wider European network was later arrested in Turkey — and Belgian authorities say no further Iran-inspired attacks have been recorded since his arrest.
The campaign has also been linked to HAYI (Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamiya), a previously unknown group that claimed numerous attacks on Jewish and Israel-linked targets across Europe, and whose material circulated through pro-Iranian networks.

My family lived through the establishment of the state of Israel and what he calls the “Nakba.” The Holocaust was nothing like the events of the “Nakba” where my grandfather was told to flee by Arab leaders (not Jews) so the Arabs could “defeat the Jews.” He refused, and all the Arab residents who stayed were given citizenship. Those who fled, a large number by choice, were not permitted to return, as often happens in war. That is a catastrophe, a “nakba” of their own making. But there was no choice in the Holocaust, there was no citizenship for those who stayed. You are intentionally comparing a war and a genocide. They are not the same.
Your vile attempt to co-opt the largest massacre of the Jewish people in history, the systematic murder of six million people simply because they were Jews, for your own dystopian pro-terror Muslim Brotherhood agenda is despicable.
