🚨 Ander Herrera on why he left Manchester United after winning Player of the Year:
🗣️ Ander Herrera: “After my third season, I had the Player of the Year award. When I won that, I expected the club to come to me. I told my agent, ‘Whatever they offer is going to be okay. I’m going to sign because I want to stay at United. I’m so happy.’
“So every week while I was on holiday, I was asking, ‘Did they call you?’ ‘No, Ander, they didn’t call me.’ Next week, same thing. The season started. I started playing. They still didn’t come.
“What killed me was when they sent that letter saying they were going to renew automatically for my fifth season. They didn’t even call me to say, ‘Ander, we want you to stay.’ I was there so happy, always trying to bring the team together, everyone together, giving everything for the club. But my heart was broken.
“I said to Ed Woodward, ‘Do you think I deserve to be sent a letter? Couldn’t you have come to me to talk?’ He said, ‘Yeah, yeah, sorry, sorry.’ And I told him, ‘Now the situation has changed.’
“I wanted to stay. I was ready to sign whatever they put in front of me. But they treated it like a formality. After everything I had given, they sent a letter instead of a conversation. That was the moment I knew I had to go.”
