Matthew McConaughey and the rest of the team did a number on my brain with Interstellar movie, because I’ve always wondered about a couple of things. If Cooper and the crew knew that Miller’s planet was extremely close to Gargantua, and that time moved dramatically slower there, why did they spend so much time trying to recover the data after realizing what had happened? One hour on that planet was roughly seven years back on Earth. So every minute mattered. And once they realized Miller had been dead for years, wouldn’t the priority have been getting back to the ship as quickly as physically possible instead of spending even more time there? I understand why the scene had to happen for the story. But logically… Wasn’t every extra second they spent on that planet potentially costing them years of their lives? Maybe I’m missing something about the time-dilation calculations. But that scene still makes me stop and think “What am I missing?” every time I watch it.
