The main benefit of locational prices is lower prices there is another benefit - the ability to better connect neighbouring grids. Just this summer Sweden said 'No' to a proposed interconnector with Germany b/c Germany doesn't locational pricing. reuters.com/business/energy/…
This a must-read thread on why locational pricing is now critical in electricity. Failure to introduce it puts bills up (a lot) and makes a mockery of cheap renewables. The status quo is indefensible (unless you’re one of the incumbent generators profiting massively from it)

📢 Big news for the #CleanHeat transition! The newly appointed Energy and Housing Commissioner’s mission letter includes key priorities we've been advocating for, recognising the potential of clean heat for affordable and competitive energy prices: ✅ An Affordable Energy Prices Action Plan providing support for clean and efficient heating systems ✅ A framework to phase out fossil fuel subsidies and boost the roll out of renewable energy ✅ A System Integration Action Plan with a focus on heating & cooling decarbonisation while removing barriers to flexibility Will he pass the test of the European Parliament? These are directly aligned with the policy recommendations in our recent #HeatRight report. Excited to see the EU take these crucial steps to close the clean heat gap and ensure a sustainable energy future for all! 🌍♨️ Learn more here: cleanheateurope.eu/clean-hea…

This just keeps getting worse. On the day of the floods the Spanish government offered to send emergency management troops to Valencia FOUR TIMES before regional authorities finally accepted. The regional president was two hours late to the crisis meeting because he was AT LUNCH.

Here's my fun fact for you for today: it's been 30 years since the first promises of an industry-government consortium to decarbonize the oil sands with carbon capture and sequestration. Notable how bullishness over Pathways seems to be eroding today among industry advocates.

The Belgium dot should move down to the upper reaches of the yellow box as the Flemish government recently announced a spark price target of about 2.75 - we don't know when they want to hit it though.

In a nod to spooky season, this week we chatted with Mauro Felicori, founder of the Association of Significant Cemeteries in Europe (ASCE), who argues Europe’s tomb-lined spaces are intrinsically linked to the development of our cities — and deserving of our admiration.

The last sentence in this piece is a hell of a kicker. Follow the think and have a read. Well worth your time.

COLUMN: The share of Russian natural gas in European imports has climbed to 20% year-to-date, up from 15% in 2023. Three years into the war, Europe can't kick its addiction to Russian gas, either via pipeline (throughout Ukraine) or LNG ships. @Opinion bloomberg.com/opinion/articl…

This is excellent and not just because it meets my priors - but the one question that stays with me about Europe's EV transition is what impact thousands of LTNs across Europe will have on the speed of the transition, if any.
Is there really an EV slowdown? Are EV's too cheap in China? Can we compete? This week on Cleaning Up, @MLiebreich welcomes @colinmckerrache , Head of Clean Transport @BloombergNEF to answer all of your burning questions on Electric Vehicles. Tonight, 6PM BST.

What a pity. She's been great and the world needs a lot more female mayors.
BREAKING: #Montréal’s 1st female mayor, @Val_Plante , has announced she won’t seek a 3rd term. I endorsed her and @projetmontreal , and never regretted it. Au revoir (mais pas adieu), Val!

I am finalising an article on what Dan Jørgensen needs to do in his first 100 days as European Energy Commissioner. We have a good idea of what he wants to do in his Parliamentary answers - but what is missing? Or needs to be more explicit? hearings.elections.europa.eu…
