Today, we’re spotlighting a special project of Layne Glover’s. Layne is a student at White County Middle School and a member of FFA. As part of this experience, Layne is raising his own heifer. He named her Ella after his favorite singer, Ella Langley! Layne’s hard work feeding calves, cleaning barns, and tending to Ella has not gone unnoticed. His dedication will prepare him for a bright future in Georgia agriculture.

I’m proud to announce a record investment of nearly $1.2 million in Dog and Cat Sterilization Program grants to support low-cost spay and neuter services across Georgia. In light of the recent New World Screwworm detection in Grant County, New Mexico, I have re-implemented enhanced animal entry requirements for animals coming to Georgia from five New Mexico counties.   Anyone bringing warm-blooded animals into Georgia from affected areas must follow the updated entry requirements.   Read more: ⬇️ bit.ly/4hkrz3W

Waylon NeSmith is a rising senior at Tiftarea Academy in Chula, Georgia. A sixth-generation farmer, Waylon is carrying on his family’s agricultural legacy after his father’s unexpected passing in 2025. In addition to working on his own farm, Waylon holds a full-time job and is pursuing dual enrollment welding certifications. He serves as a member of FFA and the Turner County Farm Bureau. Waylon’s exemplary work ethic and dedication to both farming and family make him a strong leader for Georgia’s agricultural future.
