1. We will keep accelerating. Our AI efforts are only 3 years old, vs 6 and 10 years old for Anthropic and OpenAI. If our second derivative remains strong, SpaceX will reach pole position in about 6 months. 2. Once you far exceed the caliber of intelligence needed for a class of tasks, additional intelligence is pointless. You don’t need (and it would be cruel to put) Newton-level intelligence in your toaster! 3. Hardware is hard. Bringing massive compute online rapidly is incredibly difficult. SpaceX has demonstrated exceptional ability in this regard and will only get better.

The longer your threads get, the more tokens you are using. And then, right when you're in the middle of something important your agent runs compaction (which is slow) and then comes back utterly stupid. I created two slash commands: - /handoff - this writes a handoff.md file with a summary of what we've been working on so that another agent can catch up from scratch. The file is written in a directory aware manner and timestamped. - /handon - this tells an agent to read the most recent handoff file in this directory (unless I explicitly specify a different one). So my workflow is if I happen to see I'm running close to the limit, I type /handoff, then /new (which lists the handoff files in the directory), and I type /handon if I want to resume work. I also set up a pre-compaction hook to always run /handoff (just in case I accidentally get there). This seems to work really well for me. Please tell me if this is dumb and you have a better system.
