Lula reduced deforestation in the Amazon by almost 50%. Now all that will be undone and much worse to follow as Flávio Bolsonaro set to wind Presidency People are voting to destroy the Amazon and their own future and that is exactly what they will get theguardian.com/world/2026/o…

The Bureau of Land Management approved blasting through 100-foot canyon walls at the entrance to the world's longest art gallery. So oil tankers can drive through it. Nine Mile Canyon, Utah holds more than 10,000 cultural, historical and archaeological resources, including over 1,000 known rock art sites containing more than 10,000 individual images. People have used this canyon for at least 8,000 years. The blasting happens in Gate Canyon, the entrance corridor into that gallery. Federal surveys have already found 47 historic sites along this one stretch of road alone. And it's not only the rock art. Threatened Mexican spotted owls use cliff habitat in the canyon, including areas near the proposed blasting. BLM did the minimum environmental review required and barreled ahead anyway, to move oil out of the Uinta Basin faster. Up to 1,000 vehicles a day, roughly half of them heavy tankers. This isn't BLM's first swing at this road. Duchesne County tried the same realignment in 2015 and again in 2022. Both times, public opposition killed it. This time, BLM posted it quietly in March with no public notice, denied conservation groups' request to even weigh in, and approved it in April anyway. It's the same playbook that just got this administration stopped at Big Bend National Park, except "stopped" is doing a lot of work in that sentence. There, a judge halted construction October 2nd, but only after bulldozers had already torn through the park’s grounds. A win in court doesn't un-crush what's already crushed. Three groups sued over Gate Canyon this week. But a lawsuit takes months. A blasting crew takes days. #DemsUnited 🧵

A forest that took centuries to build, destroyed in days. For profit. This isn't development. It's the liquidation of our planet's natural capital. #Ecocide #Deforestation

Imagine condemning ICE, but still actively working with them. It would nullify the condemnation. How is that different from saying it’s a genocide and continuing to be invested and associated with the country perpetrating it?
15
If an elected leader said climate change is real, would that be enough? No, we would call for action to address climate change. So if an elected leader acknowledges the genocide, is that sufficient without any action? Both are issues caused by the United States.
17
I think it’s important to note that this issue affects all of the endorsed candidates, not just Nithya. Even though Nithya was not asked these questions, her answers to other questions were better than the other DSA endorsed candidates: she admitted it’s a genocide, affirmed it’s not antisemitic to call for Palestinian liberation, and acknowledged Palestinians are living under apartheid. Yet Marissa Roy said none of these things and gave evasive answers. Previously Hugo refused to answer whether he accepted educational trips to Israel. Removing these questions helps the candidates accept endorsements from the county/state Democratic Party and running for higher office in the future. All of the candidates should be asked these questions now with their answers recorded if they are getting DSA support.
Love that major DSA chapters are attempting to circumvent national resolutions around anti-Zionism to protect their elected officials this surely won’t cause an organizational crisis

i don’t think ppl truly grasp that, if Bolsonaro Jr. wins in Brazil, the Amazon rainforest is definitely FUCKED, just when we’re reaching a point of no-return in the climate crisis. this affects literally everybody on earth.

California’s Senator Alex Padilla did not vote.
A great development: The Senate voted AGAINST the NDAA 50-46, denying Israel a merger with the US. Those 46 who voted in favor, should face charges for treason

The scale of deforestation in the Congo Basin is staggering. It is estimated that an area larger than the size of Germany has been cleared in the past two decades alone. This rapid loss of forest cover has far-reaching consequences for the global climate and biodiversity.

Arrogance is believing we can endlessly take without giving back. Arrogance is thinking technological cleverness will always save us from ecological collapse. Arrogance is assuming nature is a foe to be battled, rather than the very system that gives us life.

Crazy, i know.
