So. I accidentally went viral.
I made a short channel update for my subscribers and it ended up being seen by hundreds of thousands of people. The comments are overwhelmingly lovely - lots of heartfelt condolences and congratulations, as well as some incredibly strong people sharing their own stories of grief. That wasn't entirely the case, though.
It's been very weird having hundreds of people question how I choose to talk about the single most traumatic event of my life. Some questioned whether I cared about my late husband. Some accused me of grifting. A few even said that I'm responsible for his death.
All this because I joked about the absurdity of a wonderful thing co-occurring with an awful thing. Dark jokes are a very common coping strategy for people who have experienced trauma, by the way.
Most of my community already knew about HusMod. He used to be at every stream. In the year since he passed away, I've talked about him a lot and organised multiple charity events dedicated to him. I hope my actions speak louder than assumptions based on a 6-minute channel update.
By the way, if you spend your time leaving multiple unpleasant comments on a widow's YouTube video, you probably need a different hobby.
If you have a little spare change, please consider donating to Samaritans! We're raising money in memory of HusMod and Captain Beezy. They were both incredible people, let's make them proud. 🩶💚
