In The Skies
We’re not even halfway through 2025, and here’s what things look like at @AirframesIO so far. AVIATION ✈️ Over 1 billion messages tracked (excluding non-ACARS) ✈️ Over 290 million flight positions logged ✈️ Over 9 million flights tracked Compared to all of 2024, that’s: 🔼 20% more flights 🔼 289% more flight positions (thanks to improved decoder algorithms) 🔼 18% more messages MARINE 🚢 Over 1 billion messages tracked 🚢 Over 1.1 million voyages recorded 🚢 Over 837 million voyage positions collected That’s: 🔼 999% more messages than in all of 2024 🔼 1% more voyages ❓ 837 million positions—still checking how that compares to 2024 We’re basically eating all we can, and we’ll keep going. Work is underway to better store historical data and open it up for search and exploration. Assuming continued support, more formats are coming soon—and more types of data in aviation, marine, and beyond. Huge thanks to everyone contributing data and financial support. You're the reason this exists. Expect some interesting news in the next update.

Pre-Alpha Release: xng 0.21.0 Several releases have gone by unannounced, but this time it is significant. We made sure that 0.20 -> 0.21 was meaningful. github.com/airframesio/xng/r… Nutshell: - Added UAT (978mhz) to support ADS-B (1090mhz) (both current at par or exceeds existing) - Added FLEX + POCSAG pager decoding (at par) - Initial APRS (still working to increase fidelity and improve; your testing can help) - Added COSPAS-SARSAT (distress beacons) - Added foundations for NAVTEX (but due to proprietaries we don't have enough details yet; reach out if you can help) - Added DSC - Added Radiosonde (at par from bench; but looking deeper test) - Added ADS-L (first implementation we've seen) - Added ATCS + EOT (train) - Added VTES Some of these new modes have no modern equivalent decoder and are derived from specifications. We're working hard to test, refine, improve.
Pre-Alpha Release: xng 0.10.1 Announcing the first pre-alpha release for the public to learn, experiment and use xng, a next-generation multi-mode decoder client. We've been working on a single binary, multi-decoder client for a long time. We tossed most away, and then got sidetracked with other things, only to come back again and again. We think we have it this time: - Rust language & features - core-based approach to decoding - legacy support + wrappers - Airframes as 1st Class, full support for anyone else - flexible licensing (MIT & APACHE) There is so much to say about this pre-release. But I'm going to save it for the die hards to inspect more closely. We'll elaborate in more detail to the rest of the community as a 1.0.0 becomes closer. Please give us feedback directly via DM, or on the repo via Issues. github.com/airframesio/xng github.com/airframesio/xng/r… @alerts @updates @airframes-contrib @airframes-contrib @airframes-dev @airframes-mod

Alongside Airwaves OS, we're also announcing xng — the next generation of decoders. → xng.airframes.io Here's the thing: Airwaves OS was never just about Airframes. We believe in the ecosystem, in the community, and in your freedom to choose what you run. We've got opinions (plenty of them), but you're the one at the controls. So yes, xng ships on Airwaves OS — and so do all the familiar favorites. acarsdec, dumpvdl2, AcarsHub: still right there. Run what you love. But we think xng is something special. Not just because it's a single, memory-safe, tightly-packed Rust binary (though it is). It's because we're still here — actively supporting it, actively building on it. A lot of the old decoders haven't had a commit in years. xng is still shipping. It's not finished. But it already speaks more than 20 modes - and plenty of them don't just match the benchmarks of the existing tools, they beat them. And it's all open source. Use it, fork it, break it, improve it, send it back better. We're not going to beg you to contribute. ...ok, who are we kidding. We are absolutely begging you to contribute. xng is a different way to decode. Come see for yourself → xng.airframes.io
Officially announcing ... **Airwaves OS** A community-supported, open-source OS for the radio/SDR enthusiast. Initially focused on the aviation/maritime community, but will expand to **all** radio. It's almost here, but that's just the start. We have so much more planned. airwavesos.com Comment "sdr" to get bumped up on the invitation list. #sdr #radio #aviation #aerospace #osint #ai #tech

This is a really really big deal for both #avgeeks and #osint Years in the making, I can't wait to jump in and start testing.

This will literally change the ADS-B/ACARS/VDL/HFDL/SATCOM/AIS/etc feeder game. One binary, one client, one feeder. We're going to make it easy.

I’ve def been shadow banned on X. I talked some crap about Ewan Mursks a long while back and I run @AirframesIO which helps some people track his flights and that is probably why

A call to air geeks, we need more coverage north and south of Miami, FL!
My site does not have anyone feeding from there, and it looks like @AirframesIO only has some feeders north of Miami. (Usual call for more ACARS ground stations-please and thanks). Looking at the search does not show anything obvious. Click this search link and see what you can find. app.airframes.io/messages/hi…

API Key Provisioning Issue We have identified an issue provisioning API keys, and we are actively working on the fix. This is a clear issue and we should have this remedied within the next 1-2 hours (need to test in staging to ensure it works properly first). I recognize that when you pay for something and have confusion/challenges to use what you paid for, it leads to a bad experience. That never sits well with me. Paid Pro and Business Tier users who were impacted will be receiving extra free time (2 months) as compensation (and we'll also send out emails to each once complete and credits issued). Thanks, as always, for your patience and support. The public consumer API is still very fresh, and we expect there will be further issues as we continue to scale it out.

Lots of users using the Airframes API to augment their #OSINT research. We've got an MCP server coming soon that will use your API key.

Take 1min 45 sec out of your day and check out this video!! Super proud Dad moment. The KRIV Iridium is hosted by my son, and the HC610 has been sitting on the bottom rail since he moved in. With @ElbaSatGuy and @cemaxecuter big jump in position decoding, I asked him to mount it on the top rail. This is the process he took for #avgeek and #osint Totally knocked it out of the park! Huge jump in range.
