Love this. Therapy dogs can help in so many ways
Visting hospital for treatment can be a daunting and challenging time - especially for some young people. But Altnagelvin Hospital in Londonderry has come up with a novel idea to make the trip a lot less stressful with the help of a four legged friend.

It easy to miss other, important news at the moment. There’s no agreed budget and a diminishing workforce, so harder and harder to reverse this…

I find this absolutely disgraceful and unforgivable. The situation is too serious, the wider politics are too serious, and the implications for the wider public are too serious for this disingenuous‘entertainment’

It’s a really good example of where we need double funding to transform Current staff and resource treating those already in system Screening increases need for investigation and treatment and we don’t have staff or capacity Ultimately prevention should reduce need for both…
While this expansion of cancer screening is to be welcomed – dig a little deeper into the small print and actually Northern Ireland will continue to lag behind the rest of the UK for several years. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cjr4… @bowelcanceruk @IEColonCancer

Amen! Roll out also negatively affected by too many emerg surgery centres. Too many front doors & too few staff spread too thin. Hopefully sense will prevail asap. @RobbieButlerMLA @healthdpt @bowelcanceruk @CancerFocusNI @Sarah_Christie5
Important good news. Also important that the full benefit and potential is being held back by workforce and capacity shortages

The Health Minister has announced a major expansion of the bowel cancer screening programme. From November, thousands more people in will be invited for potentially life-saving screening. 🔗health-ni.gov.uk/news/butler…

I work in cardiology and have lost count of the number of our consultants who've left over the years. Most have gone south.

This is a brutally honest and frank interview. We are losing consultants across all specialties and all parts of NI. We need to rapidly become attractive and competitive on this island and within the UK.
What implications will there be for the Southern Health Trust if the closure of inpatient maternity services in Daisy Hill in Newry go ahead? The Chief Executive of the Trust Steve Spoerry tells @MarkCarruthers7 "It's a difficult problem to deal with."

My summary of all I’ve heard and read on this today. We can afford pay parity, we can afford excellence and we should aim to attract the best. We can not however afford our current unreformed, bloated, duplicitous, ineffective and inefficient public sector
The quality of Northern Ireland's public services is being undermined by a policy of matching public sector pay awards in England, research suggests. bbc.in/4cSk7vu

Recruitment and retention are the common factors in a series of service collapses. At @BMA_NI we represent all Doctors and we are not aware of any strategy or plan to resolve this. In fact it is likely to get worse…

We are about to enter a paradigm shift in GP service with AI / underfunding / understaffing and young GPs walking away from the chaos. And who suffers? The patients.

For the avoidance of any doubt. I have zero political affiliation. I practice in the middle of East Belfast. I see shocking harm and health inequalities. I want to see much, much better for everyone. I only ever get criticism and abuse from the usual suspects
From a health perspective we need this debate. The gap in outcomes, life expectancy, staffing levels pay, terms and conditions is becoming far too wide to ignore

As a specialist, people come to me with a diagnosis, or there’s a limited set of possibilities. Respect is due for GPs’ clinical acumen, seeing any and all symptoms, occasionally with a serious cause behind it all. If only funding for primary care was better: we need more GPs!
GP summed up in a nutshell by my medical student daughter tonight ‘My goodness, do you deal with absolutely everything?!’ I think there’s a new found respect….
