Robert Pattinson landed Bruce Wayne after screen-testing in a crumbling, sweat-soaked suit cobbled together from Val Kilmer’s body and George Clooney’s cowl. Now, that same chaotic franchise has brought in Steven Soderbergh to help Matt Reeves finish The Batman: Part II.
During his 2019 audition, Warner Bros. shoved Pattinson into decades-old archive latex that was literally disintegrating on his legs. He boiled alive, sweating so hard the crew had to drain fluid from the rubber, and even took secret bathroom selfies convinced he’d never get the job.
Seven years later, that absurd journey has peaked with an Oscar-winning auteur quietly moonlighting as an emergency director on a $200 million comic book shoot.
For Pattinson, having the Ocean’s Eleven filmmaker step up to keep cameras rolling was pure relief:
"It's incredibly generous of him – and he's doing it in the loveliest way. It's completely selfless. I think they're in production already & I’m starting in a couple of days."
From suffocating inside George Clooney’s leftover rubber to being directed by Steven Soderbergh on a superhero set, Pattinson’s Batman era remains the wildest ride in modern cinema.
Robert Pattinson says he is so happy that Steven Soderbergh has come on board to help Matt Reeves finish ‘THE BATMAN: PART 2’.
“It's incredibly generous of him – and he's doing it in the loveliest way. It's completely selfless. I think they're in production already & I’m starting in a couple of days.”
