October is historically the standout month of the midterm year. Since 1950, DJIA has averaged a +3.2% gain in October, while the S&P 500 and NASDAQ have averaged +3.0% and +3.2%, respectively. jeffhirsch.tumblr.com/post/8…
Reminder: Week after September Triple Witching has been a historical minefield for bulls. Nearly 1% average losses since 1990. jeffhirsch.tumblr.com/post/8…
Market tracking the historical midterm-year September pattern with surprising precision. Through today’s close, Sept. 16, DJIA and Russell 2000 are down over 3%, while the Nasdaq is off ~1.5%. September remains the market’s historically weakest month. jeffhirsch.tumblr.com/post/8…

Brace for another round of volatility? September’s quarterly options expiration arrives during one of the market’s weakest seasonal periods. Quarterly expiration week has been mixed, but the week after has been decidedly bearish for S&P 500 and DJIA. jeffhirsch.tumblr.com/post/8…
Sell Rosh Hashanah, Buy Yom Kippur—Remembering 9/11
Rosh Hashanah this year coincides with the 25th anniversary of 9/11. We remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost and honor the courage of first responders. S&P 500 averages -0.4% from Rosh Hashanah to Yom Kippur, declining 31 of 55 years. Seasonal trade is to sell or reduce exposure around Rosh Hashanah and look to buy back around Yom Kippur. Shanah Tovah! jeffhirsch.tumblr.com/post/8…
A great conversation with Jeffrey Hirsch @AlmanacTrader about the 60 Year old Stock Traders Almanac.
Proving this quote true:
“History doesn't repeat itself, but it often rhymes.”
Another September seasonal warning: The day before Rosh Hashanah has averaged losses across all four major indexes since 2001. S&P 500 –0.71% | NASDAQ –0.89% | DJIA –0.71% | Russell 2000 –0.80%. jeffhirsch.tumblr.com/post/8…
Tuesday after Labor Day: DJIA, S&P 500 & R2K down 9 straight. DJIA weakest, up just 33.3% of the time since 2005, average loss –0.28%. S&P 500 is similarly weak average loss –0.20%. NASDAQ & R2K are modestly better based upon frequency of gains, but performance on Tuesday is negative. jeffhirsch.tumblr.com/post/8…
All of the influencer debates about how to exercise are tedious & dumb. Move your body. Do it a lot. Walk, run, bike, lift. Whatever you love. Keep doing it. Don’t eat like a putz. There. That’s all you need to know.
Pre-Labor Day trading mixed/bearish last 21 years. Since 2005, the major indexes have been flat to modestly lower on average on the Thursday and Friday before the holiday. jeffhirsch.tumblr.com/post/8…

September bears watching. Midterm years often start stronger than longer-term September patterns, but that advantage fades sharply after midmonth. By the end of September, NASDAQ and Russell 1000 losses have historically deepened to around –1.6% to –1.8%. jeffhirsch.tumblr.com/post/8…
