On his campaign website, Young describes himself as a “repentant former U.S. Marine who used his ill-gotten skills to help train and defend various neighborhood groups this winter,” a reference to Operation Metro Surge. In an August interview with The North Star Independent, Young said he resigned from his job as a corporate attorney when Operation Metro Surge began in December and “hit the streets, sucking down tear gas and wrasslin’ ICE agents.” Young has made his distaste for Klobuchar clear in recent months, criticizing her in a June interview for funding “the genocide in Gaza.”
