🚨 EXCLUSIVE: Europe just took a major step toward putting traditional finance onchain.
The ECB has launched Pontes, allowing tokenized assets to settle directly in central bank money, with Deutsche Bank, Santander and 11 other institutions joining the initial rollout.
@edwin_mata, CEO and co-founder of Brickken, told AlphaWire that Pontes tackles one of the biggest missing pieces in institutional tokenization:
“Tokenized assets become much more useful when the settlement infrastructure underneath them can move at the same speed as the asset itself.”
The system links private blockchain platforms with the Eurosystem’s existing settlement infrastructure, bringing the asset and cash sides of tokenized trades together.
Full rollout is expected by 2028.
