π¨ STARSHIP FLIGHT 14 | EARTH FROM ORBIT
This may be my favorite Starship footage ever.
Monitor Live earth events: live.spacetracker.org
September 28, 2026 delivered a view we have been waiting years to see:
Starship in Earth orbit. ππ
And this camera angle is incredible.
The spacecraft hangs against the darkness of space while the brilliant curved limb of Earth stretches across the background. Sunlight catches the structure of Starship as a massive blue-white cloud expands outward behind it.
That expanding plume is especially striking.
At orbital altitude there is almost no surrounding atmospheric pressure to constrain exhaust or vented gas. Instead of remaining a tight column like a rocket plume near the ground, the gas can rapidly spread into a huge translucent cloud.
For a few seconds it almost looks like a nebula forming beside Starship.

π THE VIEW FINALLY LOOKS TRULY ORBITAL
Earlier Starship flights gave us extraordinary high-altitude imagery.
Flight 14 crossed another milestone.
Starship reached Earth orbit for the first time during today's mission, after launching from Starbase, Texas.
Seeing the strongly curved Earth behind the vehicle completely changes the visual scale.
This no longer looks like a giant rocket climbing away from a launch site.
It looks like a spacecraft.

π°οΈ AND STARSHIP CARRIED A REAL ORBITAL PAYLOAD
Flight 14 carried 26 Starlink V3 satellites, marking Starship's first operational orbital payload deployment.
That makes the mission much more than another atmospheric test.
It represents a transition toward the kind of work Starship was built to perform:
β’ Large-scale orbital payload delivery
β’ Satellite deployment
β’ Long-duration orbital operations
β’ Future propellant-transfer missions
β’ Lunar transportation
β’ Eventually, deep-space missions

π₯ LOOK CLOSELY AT STARSHIP
The footage also reveals an incredible combination of engineering and environment.
One side of the spacecraft is illuminated by intense sunlight.
The opposite side falls almost completely into shadow.
Individual surfaces and heat-shield regions remain visible while Earth glows thousands of kilometres across the background.
And throughout the clip, the enormous expanding gas cloud continues changing shape.
It is one of those rare views where you can visually feel the difference between flying through an atmosphere and operating in near-vacuum.

π FLIGHT 14 IS A MAJOR STARSHIP MILESTONE
Starship entered orbit roughly 25 minutes after liftoff during the September 28 mission. The flight followed 13 previous Starship test flights and represented the program's first successful insertion into Earth orbit.
Years of prototypes.
Explosions.
Rebuilds.
Engine upgrades.
Heat-shield testing.
Booster recovery experiments.
And now this:
Starship above the curved Earth.
Sometimes one camera angle tells the entire story.
This one does.
