How do you know when a question deserves another year of your life? From the inside, the stretch before a breakthrough and the stretch spent on a dead end can look terribly alike. I find this harder than the usual advice to be persistent. I want to distinguish a difficult question worth staying with from an impossible demand I cannot bring myself to release. And I would quite like to know the difference before giving it the year.

Are you talking about specifically - context is needed, ending one’s life prematurely or pursuing a science question? Science is odd in the fact that breakthroughs require knowledge, experience and luck. Being a scientist should be the reward in itself, you do science - are you a quality scientist, are you honest, is the project worthy - because you always need backers. It is expensive for most trials and that’s when it gets political. A scientist fails to make a new sticky enough glue, ….for years then puts it on paper and you get a resealable sticky note. People love it. Stuck in a rut is common - go to a museum; pursue something as a side quest, a difficult problem is solved by not trying to solve the problem. I was interested in the satellite problem - I don’t worry about solving it 30 minutes after seeing it. I just trust that I will research it …. do something else….return to the research and then continue reading all the issues, conflicts of interest, look at it altruistically, then as selfish individuals and groups, and try and figure it out, go around in circles and loops, will this work if we try this? Read many perspectives, each hour I get a little deeper or not as I go down the wrong path. I trust myself and the process - an entire library of books, the solution is a line in one book …but there is no index, I start reading one book and that recommends several other books, and I just keep going as the pile of books gets bigger - there may be 5000 books - I might get there in 5, it might take 20 years and 500 books, or I won’t find it in my lifetime, but I lay the trail for the next pursuer …write up the thoughts in a book or paper, publish it - get feedback and let it go,….carry on researching realise I was not wise on the first paper - let the earlier version - the student; the novice go …give her a pass ….carry on diligently doing the work, the glory and the end becomes irrelevant - the science journey is what defines me and my identity. No one else.

Elon Musk hasn’t posted on 𝕏 in more than 22 hours. His last post was before he reached trillionaire status again. He’s completely locked the f*ck in right now.

And here is the gov saying that 200 micrograms is max anyone over 50 should eat in a day. So you can have the marmite, but you can't have the toast with it or any other flour that day! Sign the petition.
Did you know that a thick spread of Marmite on thick white toast will instantly give you just over 100% (210µg) of the standard UK guideline for adult daily intake (which is 200 µg per day). @julesserkin

Every interview about Elon Musk's personal life asks the same questions. Why did the marriages end. What went wrong with Amber. How does he manage 12 children. What does he regret. Nobody asks the question that matters most: does he believe he is capable of being loved for who he is without the companies. Not the rockets. Not the billions. Not the vision. Not the genius. The man underneath all of it. The man who sits in a room after the employees go home and the interviews end and the phone stops buzzing. Does that man believe someone could love him. Just him. The version with nothing to offer except his presence. The answer is visible in the structure of every relationship he's built. The acquisition phase delivers the full force of his value proposition: attention, resources, vision, intensity. The offering is so overwhelming that the woman cannot separate the man from the offering. By the time she tries, the offering has withdrawn and the man underneath has never been properly introduced. He doesn't let the man underneath be known because the man underneath is the boy from Pretoria who was told by his father that he was inadequate and was told by his peers through violence that he was unacceptable. The companies were built as proof of adequacy. The wealth was built as proof of value. The mission was built as proof of importance. All of it addresses the original wound: you are not enough. The wound runs a program: if they see the real me, they'll leave. So he offers the extraordinary version. The version nobody leaves because nobody walks away from rockets and billions and the future of civilization. But the extraordinary version is a character. The man inside the character is tired and lonely and sends memes at 2am because he can't sleep and wants someone to be there. Every relationship has been an attempt to answer the question nobody asks. And every relationship has ended before the answer could arrive because the question was never allowed to be spoken. The man who is building a future for 8 billion people has never resolved the question of whether one person could love him without it.

Let us talk about food....first. Shared love of food. Let us pose a problem - favourite British snack/light meal - thick two sliced pieces of white toast with butter and (beef extract) now because of foe lick a/c id in the beef extract and bread now causes an overdose in foe lick a/c id. You can have the piece of toast or the beef extract but not both. What is your solution - my idea is to change the ingredients of both to not contain it. Then I can eat it breakfast, lunch and dinner if I like and not get colon cancer from the overdose. How would you persuade the big corp to change the ingredient list - it is yunee lever - massive lawyer department. I love the taste - just not the extra additions. Half the country don't like it - the other half do. I don't know what love yeast extract / don't like yeast extract couples do. Food attitudes, culture, etiquette are important. Date a gym bro - he has to have special food....to maintain his gains and body fat ratio, etc. The whole marketing / ad thing for yeast extract is that it divides a nation - we have very strong opinions either way. Ask any British person how they feel about yeast extract - they will tell you, share it with you - it is a fun thing to give to people from other countries and watch their face as they try it for the first time. It is so British and cuts through all layers of society as a preference - rich and poor - all people enjoy it - it is classless. One of my favourite weekend breakfasts is dippy egg toast with yeast extract with big soft boiled eggs. What is your approach to these key facts and interesting things linking to the campaign for healthy food in Britain? What would be your campaign idea / marketing / meme?

Yes I have travelled to Belize and Guatemala. Great places - beautiful and so interesting - both very different countries in terms of policies, language and culture. You will have a raft of after dinner stories - they are both exotic and wild. Guatemala is the safest of the two and has a family feel. Belize is like no-where else - similar climate but the culture is very different.

Another example of thousands showing the truth quality of Steve Jobs as a man, or lack thereof. Money and reputation are meaningless, and he proved how hollow life can be when those are your gods.
In 1980 Steve Jobs told a court he could not be Lisa's father. Then Apple went public and he was worth over $200 million. The DNA test said 94.1%. He said 28% of men could be. The court ordered $385 a month. She was 2 years old. Lisa Brennan was born in 1978 to Jobs's girlfriend at the time, Chrisann Brennan. He denied he was the father. San Mateo County sued him for child support, and a court ordered a DNA test. The result: a 94.1% probability that Jobs was her father. His answer was a number of his own. He argued that 28% of the male population of the United States could be the father, and he still said it to Time magazine in 1983. In the video below, Lisa remembers a trip to Hawaii when she was about 9. Her father pointed out body parts they had in common. She later learned that around then he was still telling people he was not her father, even after the DNA test. The settlement set support at $385 a month and covered her health insurance until she turned 18. After Apple went public he raised the payment to $500. Lisa writes in her memoir that Apple went public four days after the papers were signed, and that overnight her father was worth more than $200 million. Not long after, he named his new computer the Lisa. He told people it stood for "Local Integrated System Architecture." Decades later he admitted it was named for his daughter. His own account came late. He told his biographer that he wished he had handled it differently. Lisa says in the video that a month before he died he kept telling her, "I owe you one." In his will he reportedly left her a multi-million-dollar inheritance. My take: the number that matters is $385, not $200 million. A man with a company worth hundreds of millions could settle this with a rounding error, and he fought it. I read that as the clearest picture of how he saw people at 25, and the computer he named after her says more about him than about her. You have seen the small version. The owner who pays exactly what the contract forces. The partner who pays what the court requires and not a dollar more. The parent who gives the legal minimum and calls it fair. Almost nobody asks how much they would pay if nobody could make them. Did what Jobs did later make up for 1980, or did the first answer stay?

Why did Steve lie about being Lisa's father for years? Why did he not want to contribute to Lisa's welfare? Why did he publicly destroy the character of Lisa's mother? Why do some men revere Steve - where men and women don't for his actions towards the mother of his child? Why is this acceptable behaviour for a CEO? Why are men not held accountable for fathering children?

Elon Musk got rejected by Netscape. He walked into the lobby of the most important internet company in the world in 1995, stood there for several minutes, and couldn't bring himself to talk to anyone. He walked back out. He was 24 years old. He had just arrived in Silicon Valley with a degree, a brother, and almost no money. Netscape was hiring. It was the only company that mattered. Every programmer in the Bay Area wanted to work there. He stood in the lobby and froze. Not because he didn't know what to say. Because the room was full of people who looked like they belonged and he felt like he didn't. The man who would one day employ 130,000 people was too intimidated to introduce himself to a receptionist. He went home and started building Zip2 instead. Not because he had a grand vision. Because the only other option was to go back to that lobby and he couldn't do it. Zip2 sold for $307 million. The money from that sale funded X . com. X . com became PayPal. PayPal funded SpaceX and Tesla. The entire chain of companies that made him the richest man alive started because a 24 year old was too shy to talk to anyone at Netscape. The internet writes about Elon as if he emerged fully formed. The iron man. The genius. The visionary. But the origin story is a young man standing in a lobby, terrified, walking out, and building something of his own because he couldn't stomach the rejection of asking someone else for an opportunity. Every empire he built was constructed by a man who would rather build his own door than knock on someone else's. The trait that looks like visionary ambition started as social anxiety in a lobby in 1995. The richest man alive wasn't brave enough to ask for a job. He was only brave enough to create one.

How do you think real accountability should look in cases like this?
1

So since the incident - what policy and coding changes have been implemented to ensure that the company has taken stock of what happened. Why the failure occurred? - Who is taking ownership of the responsibility? When you have a serious incident - and they happen in companies - it is the steps the company does after - to manage so that it never happens again - appointing a person in the company to manage all the roadmap changes - setting up systems to stop a release if it is too risky. The defence / safety team needs to be stronger and have more power to hold back a release if there is a significant risk that there is more time to code the safety features. Who tried to stop the release internally with concerns? Can they now manage the safety? Who do you need to promote now to ensure they can veto releases? I think more sign off processes are needed. If teams are rushed and stressed they push out releases before overall considering safety abuses. So this team needs to be stronger, taken more seriously and real powers to stop releases and the have final sign off. For the evidence - this all has to be documented as a standard operating practice and workable to fit into the release schedule - the testing time needs to be longer, and more thorough. Less new features - more quality. The rate at the changes and releases is unnecessary - the new formats and options and features are on all the time. Stick to one month release. Slower - less features - just the core ones - not nice to have. Make sure the core product works and meets the highest standards for safety - look at the British ones. Look at the enterprise level banking ones. Get those embedded into the road maps as essential. Each release works towards those long list of coding standards. Get your managers up to speed and fluent in the coding guidelines, they then train the rest of the team and write the internal guidelines - this raises the overall quality. Coding buddy systems - the basic coding author gets limited access to low risk sprints, the coding managers sign off all the big complex sections before going live. Each coding page should have all the layers of sign off. 5-7 people. Billing more - 10 people for example. Photos and videos are the big issue. Fake AI videos are such a problem now. There needs to be an embedded watermark somewhere on the screen so anything created it becomes obvious to the watcher it is AI generated. It has to have a tag so if it is cut and pasted, screenshotted - spread - you can see the little tag. You want to be able to create mock ups, write comedy skits, all of the creative things - but not allow scammers and fake news. There are some people that want to not have AI slop full stop. The tags will allow people to just turn it all off if it is from grok - third party is trickier but there may be good concept videos that I want to see - from third parties to do with space engineering - complete science fiction but very exciting because then people can work on the engineering solutions. They have to see an engineering design in order to solve the science for it to exist.
