Long before Robinhood became the trading platform everyone knows, Vlad Tenev and his team were working on something called Analyst, essentially a social network built around investing.
Robinhood’s archived 2013 launch post actually describes it as: “Robinhood’s predecessor, called Analyst. ” ultimately, the team moved away from the social-network concept and went all-in on the brokerage side, which eventually became Robinhood as we know it.
But fast forward roughly 13 years, and things get pretty interesting, Robinhood is now launching Robinhood Social, but when you look at the original Analyst concept alongside what Robinhood is building today, the overlap is there.
The timeline tells the story:
2013: Analyst → social investing
↓
Robinhood → commission-free trading
↓
2026: Robinhood Social → social investing + trading
